We’ll be at Love Blooms Here Plaza with our buddies Mothers Healing Circle and Sonja Henderson, kicking off the final week of “Rest. Stop.”, doing some crafts, snacking on snacks, and making a toast to our continued health!

🚨 NOTE LOCATION CHANGE 🚨

Sundays on the Boulevard: Back to School Lit Fest is moving to Ogden Avenue! We are thrilled to be joining forces with the annual classic car & bike show, 🔥The Firehouse Community Arts Center🔥| Nonprofit Organization Block Party for Peace, LC HC blood drive, live music, and Young Doctors Club for the Lawndale Route 66 Festival!

This year is the Route 66 centennial, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with this epic event!

Our part of the festival will be from Central Park Ave (Pink Line stop) to Lawndale Ave., and will feature free school supplies, a kids bike raffle (child must be present), plus a stage with karaoke, dancing, and music!

Other features will be a zip line, horseback riding, a food court, art making, vendors, free books, games, and much more!

The Lit Fest runs from 1:00-4:00 but there will be events all afternoon along the avenue.

So lucky to have had two great interns from The Freshwater Lab at UIC this summer. Jadyn, you rocked it!

As a Green Stormwater Infrastructure Intern, I will help with managing and taking care of the community museums and gardens. Outside of that, I’ll talk to community members about stormwater and see if the city’s actions towards limiting the hazards that come from it have been effective for them. This includes developing advocacy plans and some outreach measures. What makes me excited for this position is learning about their sustainable infrastructure plans, fighting disinvestment, and connecting community residents to nature.

Hi! I’m Cheyanne, and I am very happy to be able to share my experience with the Freshwater Lab. I was a part of the Spring 2026 cohort, and it was an amazing experience. I am very thankful to Professor Havrelock for helping me secure me an internship with the Lawndale Pop-up Spot. This summer I will be helping the pop-up maintain the 16th street garden, and help strategize improvement plans. The garden was installed to help mitigate flooding in the corridor, and is a wonderful example of green stormwater infrastructure. The Lawndale Pop-up Spot has done a great job at fostering community space in Lawndale. Come check out some of the amazing work they do at the Love Blooms Here Plaza!
