The Learning Center The Learning Center is a community based adult education center which offers FREE education to men a Adults can learn and have a right to quality education.

The Learning Center, serving the North Lawndale and Little Village communities of Chicago, supports adults in their pursuit of an educational path to more confident and effective living. Education is liberating. Education is empowering. Inclusive education creates a path to justice and peace.

The Learning Center is a community based adult education center which offers FREE education to men and women in the North Lawndale and Little Village communities. Students of The Learning Center acquire knowledge and skills in reading, writing, math, and related subjects; and by preparing for the GED/HiSET test. Students grow in self confidence and increase their awareness of the cultural, educational, and employment resources of the city of Chicago. Since 1983 quality education has been the goal of the center. To that end, we offer FREE classes and participate in a partnership with Malcolm X College, which has provided us with adult educators for over 35 years.

Today, our Executive Director, Angie Saucedo, joined community leaders, educators, nonprofits, and partners at Access Amplified 2026: Where Digital Equity Becomes Action, held at Malcolm X College and sponsored by the Office of the President of Cook County.

The event brought people together to share ideas, build connections, and take action toward greater digital equity and access in our communities.

We’re glad to be part of the conversation and continue connecting with others who are working to expand opportunity to the communities we serve.

As National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week comes to a close, we will continue speaking up for the importance of adult education and making sure our learners’ voices are heard. 🎤📚

Yesterday, we put that into action by joining other members of the Coalition to Sustain Adult Education in Chicago for a rally and press conference. Together, we called on Illinois elected leaders for more local funding to keep adult literacy programs accessible to learners at all levels.

A special thank you to Senator Graciela Guzmán and Representative Theresa Mah for showing up and supporting adult education!

Books for Our Families! 📚

This week, our students took a walking trip to Open Books in North Lawndale to pick out books for themselves and their children as part of our Adult Education and Family Literacy Week celebration!

Our students had the opportunity to choose books for themselves and their children. They loved walking over, exploring the books, and choosing something special to take home. It was wonderful to see how excited they were to find books they could enjoy with their families.

Family literacy is an important part of supporting lifelong learning. When adults and children have opportunities to read and learn together, it helps make literacy a part of everyday family life.

A big thank you to Open Books for welcoming us and allowing our students to take books home at no cost! 📖✨

Our students showed up! 📚✏️

As we continue celebrating Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, our students, instructors, and tutors joined the Coalition to Sustain Adult Education in Chicago for a press conference and rally at the Federal Plaza highlighting the importance of adult education.

Our students brought posters with personal messages sharing what adult education means to them and why these programs matter.

The Learning Center was proud to join the Coalition to Sustain Adult Education in Chicago today for a press conference and rally during Adult Education and Family Literacy Week! 📚

We joined 90+ adult education advocates, learners, teachers, and community organizations to highlight the importance of adult literacy education and call for continued investment in programs that support adult learners across Illinois. ✏️📖

As we get ready for Thursday’s press conference at Federal Plaza, our students made their own posters to bring along and display at the event. It was a great way for students to share their experiences, goals, and what adult education means to them.

We’re kicking off Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week at The Learning Center!

Today, we started the week by asking our students to share their goals and what motivates them to keep showing up and working toward their education.

From earning a high school equivalency to improving reading and math skills, learning English, continuing their education, or simply building more confidence, every student has their own reason for being here.

We put their goals and motivations together on our “Why I Show Up” Wall as a reminder that behind every student is a goal, a reason, and a story.

We’re proud to celebrate our students this week and the many reasons they continue to show up, learn, and move forward.
