Tickets for C2ST’s Fall Social 2026 just dropped!

Join us for STEM to the Future: A Comedic Review of American Innovation Since the 80s on November 19, 2026, from 6:00–9:00 PM at Color Club.

This year’s Fall Social celebrates human ingenuity, scientific discovery, and the playful, unexpected path of innovation. Through a comedic retrospective on science and technology since the 80s, we’ll explore how big ideas, from the first artificial heart to the piano tie, helped shape a new reality.

The centerpiece of the evening is an interactive improv keynote that turns the traditional keynote on its head. Guests will help shape the presentation in real time through audience prompts, unexpected scenarios, innovation “what-ifs,” and spontaneous challenges.

Guests can also expect networking, food included with ticket purchase, drinks available for purchase, a live band, an 80s costume contest, and a few surprises that cannot be rehearsed.

All proceeds from ticket sales support C2ST’s mission to keep STEM literacy accessible to everyone.

What makes firefighter gear so protective?

Alyssa Rios, C2ST Intern at Waubonsee Community College, explains that firefighter gear is much more than a thick uniform. It is a layered system designed to slow heat, block hazardous liquids, and protect the body in dangerous conditions.

From Kevlar and Nomex to moisture barriers, thermal liners, and trapped air pockets, every layer plays a role.

Join C2ST for an autumn evening of nature exploration at Rosehill Cemetery! 🍂

The Third Annual Twilight Nature Walk takes place on Thursday, October 29, from 5:00–8:00 PM.

Guests will learn about the diverse plants, wildlife, and ecosystems that call this historic cemetery home, while exploring how nature adapts and flourishes in the middle of the city.

The evening will include guided nighttime walks led by experts from local science institutions, along with self-guided exploration stations, hands-on activity tables, education stations, and points of history throughout the grounds.

This event is free, with a suggested donation of $10–$15 to help C2ST continue offering free public events throughout Chicago.

Guided walks are first-come, first-served and spots are limited.

Exciting partnership news!

Waubonsee Community College has become the first community college partner in C2ST’s regional cohort, creating new opportunities for students to grow their STEM careers through paid science communication internships.

Through this partnership, Waubonsee students are writing about science, interviewing experts, publishing original work, and building skills that can support future research, transfer, and career opportunities.

The story is a powerful reminder that STEM pathways can begin in many places, and that community college students have important voices in science communication.

Registration is now open for the Forest Preserves of Cook County Research Symposium!

Join the Forest Preserves of Cook County on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Brookfield Zoo Chicago for a day of engaging presentations, thoughtful discussion, and celebration of the research taking place across the Forest Preserves.

Drone technology is becoming more common in the U.S., but the conversation is not simple.

Drones and other unmanned systems can be used for delivery, emergency response, infrastructure, public safety, and research. At the same time, this technology is also connected to war and conflict.

Unmanned deliveries are becoming part of the conversation around the future of technology, work, and everyday life.

Robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles could make deliveries faster and more efficient. But they also raise important questions about jobs, local businesses, safety, access, and the economy.

Will unmanned deliveries help by creating new industries and improving service?
Or will they hurt by replacing workers and changing communities too quickly?

C2ST wants to hear what you think.
