Elks scholars receive much more than financial aid. Just ask Elijah Borjon, a 2026 Top 20 Most Valuable Student scholar.

In case you missed it: The application for the Most Valuable Student scholarship is now open!

We will award 500 scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $30,000 over four years. No relation to the Elks is necessary to apply.
With this scholarship, students gain more than just financial aid—they gain an appreciation of service, a network of like-minded peers, and an for life.

The Community Investments Program is more than just our biggest program—it is the embodiment of our mission to help Elks build stronger communities.

This year, $18.8 million is appropriated to the CIP so Elks can combat food insecurity, support people experiencing homelessness, serve veterans and military members in need, promote youth community service, and so much more.

The Elks Hoop Shoot has been unleashing gritty kids for more than 50 years, but have you ever wondered exactly what grit is?

According to psychologist and researcher Angela Duckworth, grit is the combination of passion and perseverance for long-term goals. It’s the trait that propels people forward, even in the face of adversity. Research even suggests that grit is a more accurate predictor of success than social intelligence, good looks, physical health, or even IQ.

When competitors participate in the Elks Hoop Shoot, they unleash their grit. They step up to the free throw line, time and time again, set on achieving their goals. If they fall short, they pick themselves up and keep moving forward—because that’s what being a gritty kid is all about.

Nearly 100 years ago, following the completion of the Elks National Memorial, then-National President John F. Malley dreamt of building “a more stately mansion...with a dome so vast that it will cover the entire nation.” However, this mansion was not constructed of bricks and mortar—it was an idea.

Malley envisioned a “mighty army for the service of mankind” who would “extend help freely and perform their deeds with a pleasant smile.”

We are the realization of Malley’s dream.
