Thanks to the quick work of Kailua, Hawaii, Lodge No. 2230, local veterans respite home Kalihi House received a brand new freezer just in time. Elks used their Freedom Grant to buy the freezer, and also to treat residents of a US Vets facility with a luncheon filled with fresh salad and home-cooked dishes.

Elks from Clovis, Calif., Lodge No. 2599 used a Freedom Grant to help ensure unhoused veterans had the supplies they need to survive and find housing. The Lodge assembled and delivered 188 survival packs of clothing, water, sleeping bags, bathing supplies and other daily essentials to local veterans.

"Thankfully we have generous members, and they are constantly supplying donated items from hygiene items to clothing. Our favorite knitter supplied hand-crafted beanies for our women veterans."

Elks know how to make veterans as happy as a clam! Voluntary Service Representative David Perry invited veterans from South Orange County Vet Center to their annual fall clam dig at Pismo State Beach, Calif.

"We had a total of 18 participants, including 16 adults and 4 children, who were eager to join in the fun. In just a few hours, every clam digger reached their limit of 10 Pismo clams. We worked side by side, sharing tips and laughter while enjoying the beautiful beach scenery," Perry shares. "Special thank you to the Elks National Veterans Service Commission for the assistance in monthly funding for the equipment needed for clam digging."
