📚🇲🇽 ORIGEN DE LA PALABRA “CHINGON…” EN MÉXICO

Existe una versión popular que afirma que durante la Revolución Mexicana (1910-1920), algunos operadores de ametralladoras villistas utilizaban armas con la inscripción “Browning Machine Gun Co.”. Según esta historia, los mexicanos pronunciaban “machine gun” como “machín-gon”, y de ahí habría derivado la palabra que hoy conocemos como “ching…”.

Sin embargo, lingüistas señalan que el término ya existía en el español mucho antes de la Revolución y que probablemente proviene del verbo “chingar”, documentado desde siglos anteriores, con posibles raíces en el caló o en el español antiguo.

Es decir, la teoría de la “machine gun” es más una explicación popular que un origen comprobado.

🌞 A little end-of-summer reset!

We’re giving our Southside Market team a chance to recharge, so we’ll be closed the next two Sundays. Thank you for giving our team the space to rest & reset before we head into the next season.

Starting Labor Day week, we’re also moving to a new Tuesday–Saturday schedule, shaped by what you told us in our Owners Survey and what we’re seeing in shopper habits.

We’ll be returning to an 8 AM opening while continuing to explore what hours work best for our community. And yes… we’re listening for those OPEN LATE requests! 👀🌙 We’ll be exploring extended evening hours in the coming months.

Utility company NIPSCO, which serves all of Gary, said more than 61% of its customers remained without power Thursday. It said power would be fully restored by Tuesday, but residents say that timeline has been repeatedly pushed back.
