🪵🔥 Smoked, Oaked, and Stoked to End Polio was a phenomenal success! 🪵🔥

Through the collective generosity of our guests and donors, the club raised $5,636. Thanks to the ongoing partnership between Rotary and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, every dollar donated to End Polio Now provides a 2-to-1 match. This turns our event's total into a $16,908 contribution to global polio eradication efforts.

We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Sean Michaels and Jody Cousins for graciously hosting this event at their home. Special thanks to Curries Cuisine for providing the excellent catering, and to the bluegrass band Bonamo for the evening's entertainment.

Finally, thank you to everyone who contributed to our auction, with a special acknowledgment to Gabe Pina and his wife for initiating the bidding with our first "Buy Now" purchase. Thank you all for being People of Action!

Our program this week will feature a presentation titled ‘Rotary Club on the Sea: The Odyssey’ shared by Rotarian, Lindi Kirkbride.

Lindi will share with us about the Three Flags of Friendship. The New Zealand flag represents the first exchange and the beginning of the Rotary connections on her three month trip. The Bali flag represents cultural connections, especially at the meeting also with the Rotary club of Perth, Australia. Finally, the Odyssey Rotary flag represents a new kind of Rotary club formed within the traveling residential community on board a cruise ship, each unique and very special.

The meeting will start at 12:00, noon at Little America. Friends and guests are welcome!

Volunteer Opportunity‼️ This Wednesday, September 30, 2026 starting at 5:00 pm.

The Reading Under the Lights literacy initiative was spear-headed by Arp Elementary School teacher Sybil Bustos for the Laramie County School District 1 (LCSD1) South Triad community in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The program aims to promote childhood literacy, foster family engagement, and build a unified sense of community among South Triad schools.

K–5 students and their families gather under the stadium lights at South High School's football field (home of the Bison). Families bring blankets to camp out on the turf, share a meal, cuddle up to read together, and receive free books to take home.

This event typically draws multi-generational attendees and heavily relies on local business sponsors, alongside organizations like the Cheyenne Rotary Club and Blankets for Laramie County Kids, to donate books and handmade blankets.

Book to be handed out to participants: Salt in his Shoes: Michael Jordan in Pursuit of a Dream.

Volunteer opportunities:
🙌🏼 Hand out books to the kids
🥪 Hand out food (hot dogs, etc.)
📚 Help with reading passages from the book

This week’s program will feature Dan Fetsco, UW Law Professor, who will be presenting ‘Redemption as Public Safety: Reforming Sentencing Through Evidence and Restorative Justice.’

The American sentencing system often fails to achieve its stated goals of accountability, rehabilitation, and public safety. Mandatory minimums, overly long sentences, and limited opportunities for review frequently overlook human development, misjudge risk, and ignore the strong evidence supporting transformation over pure punishment.

This session brings together a criminology professor from the University of Wyoming, Dan Fetsco, and two system-impacted practitioners, Mark Corbett and Tommy Rivera, who both served decades under an extreme sentence before release, despite many years of extraordinary development while incarcerated. Drawing from research and lived experience, they examine how sentencing practices can unintentionally harm communities, fail victims, and undermine long-term safety. This meeting will start at 12:00, noon at Little America.

Masaka Global Grant Project Update❗️

We recently received an update from the Rotary Club of Masaka in Uganda where we have partnered to support a Rotary Global Grant. They have completed work on the first of six rural schools where we are installing new restrooms and rainwater harvesting tanks.

We are happy to share photos of the school classrooms, the new restrooms with rainwater storage tanks, and the new rainwater collection system.

With the Rotary Club of Cheyenne, we are not only making a difference locally but we are making a difference around the world!
