Dear Friend,

It has been a couple years since we last wrote and would like to share where we are and where we’re going. In 2024, we obtained our 501(c)(3) status, officially becoming federally recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, which enabled us to begin applying for grant opportunities. In 2025, we were awarded $15,250 in total grants from the Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, Cape Cod Foundation, Trencadis Foundation, and Cape Cod 5 to pilot MAMA’s advocacy program in Barnstable County.

In 2026, our main goals are to sustain our operations in Barnstable County, expand to an additional county in Massachusetts, and undergo strategic planning. Currently, we are seeking funding for general operating costs - typically not covered by grants - in order to sustain our work. Our Annual Appeal will begin in March for Women’s History Month, through April for Black Maternal Health Week, and end in May on Mother’s Day. We would greatly appreciate a donation of any size to reach our goal of $10,000. Make your tax deductible donation today through Zeffy: bit.ly/4rtnqNO and join our virtual Grounding Hour on April 21 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm during Black Maternal Health Week: bit.ly/MAMA-GroundingHour421.

Your donation will help us provide support to birthing people in Massachusetts so they can raise the next generation. For more information and to get involved, please contact us at [email protected].

With gratitude,

Mariah Sabir & Katie Riconda

A native of Boston with Caribbean roots, he has a 2-year-old son. Since taking office, he has secured historic capital funding for his district, expanded homeownership opportunities, and advanced the Black and Brown empowerment agenda. 🌟 We are deeply honored to receive a grant from the Trencadís Foundation! 🙏🏽✨

Rooted in values of compassion, justice, and healing, Trencadís supports nonprofits that uplift the dignity of every person and help build stronger, more connected communities.

This generous award will support our work on Cape Cod, helping us expand postpartum and maternal support services in underserved areas. These funds will allow us to reach more families across the Outer Cape, including Mashpee and beyond, with vital care and resources.

We’re truly grateful to the Trencadís Foundation for believing in our mission and joining us in this important work. 💛
