First exposed as a child to the wild spaces of Wisconsin, Christopher Ge**er now traverses the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, dissecting and interpreting the wilderness and backcountry of the region through traditional metalsmithing techniques. Daunting peaks and gargantuan vistas are scaled and broken down into comprehensible pieces, allowing manageable interpretation. His understanding of the natural world is coupled with an incessant curiosity for the unknown, the unseen, and the oft forgotten or easily dismissed. A desire to see beyond the easily accessible spaces led him down a winding path in the world of alpine exploration. The learning, practicing, and teaching of this array of skillsets enables him to see these spaces in an intimate way. His understanding of materials and process are equally diverse, with a formal education and training in metalsmithing and jewelry, and continued formal and informal training in art/commercial foundry work, woodworking, and more.
He blends these experiences in his studio practice, exploring and engaging formal techniques from the fine art, traditional craft, and industrial worlds. This blend of technical approaches helps him achieve a better understanding of the space through which he moves, and his fondness for a mixture of techniques and materials serves as an appropriate compliment to the diversity of those various spaces he so loves to explore.
Ge**er is represented by galleries in Seattle, WA and Milwaukee, WI, has work in private collections in Seattle, WA and West Bend, WI. He regularly engages with regional markets and sales events, is included in upcoming exhibitions in Vancouver, BC (CAN) and San Diego, CA (US), and is currently preparing curriculum for some virtual teaching (SW US).
Ge**er currently lives in Wenatchee, WA where he works full time as a studio metalsmith and jeweler, or as he prefers to describe it, a "maker".
Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and connect with other creatives in the beautiful setting of Chelan Ridge Winery above Lake Chelan. See you there!
