I just wanted to THANK EVERYONE who participated in our Community Potluck this last Sunday at 4 Lakes W**ery! Mariah and Karl are such wonderful community supporters in so many ways! They really helped us make it a great, warm, and friendly event, AND their space is so beautiful. More than 60 folks attended, bringing delicious food and gratitude to our Chelan Valley Community Nurse organization. We are truly blessed. Dan Quigley played music and even got Catharine Moorehead to sing us a song (yay Catharine!!) We had a little raffle for folks providing their email address to us, and the winner, getting 2 tickets to the Ruby Theatre, is... oh, sorry, my bad. We did draw a name, but I left it at the office, so I can't name that person in this post (my bad!) I will post again with that name and also reach out to them by email.

Join us in celebrating the organizations that support seniors in our community, our generous donors and volunteers, and, of course, clear skies again! Bring a dish or not; don’t let not having anything to bring be a barrier to attending.

We are so grateful for the continued support of this wonderful community.

Chelan Valley Community Nurse Organization was unable to hold our 5th Annual Summer of Love fundraiser event this year. Yet our work continues, and each year we serve more clients than ever. Beyond providing Community Nursing to vulnerable seniors who want to stay in their homes, we also collaborate with other local support networks to help meet the full range of needs in this community.

A bit more helpful information from our local Chelan-Douglas Health District
Chelan-Douglas Health District Board Declares Smoke Emergency for Chelan and Douglas Counties

In response to hazardous wildfire smoke impacting air quality throughout Chelan and Douglas counties, the Chelan-Douglas Health District (CDHD) Board of Health has approved a resolution declaring a Wildfire Smoke and Hazardous Air Quality Emergency within the district's jurisdiction. A copy of the full resolution can be found on the district's website.

The declaration recognizes the significant health risks associated with prolonged exposure to wildfire smoke and supports coordinated community actions to protect the health and safety of residents, visitors, workers, and those participating in outdoor activities.

Guidance for Event Organizers

Organizations planning public events should carefully evaluate whether activities can be conducted safely during periods of poor air quality.

Decisions should consider:

Current Air Quality Index (AQI) conditions
Expected duration of smoke exposure
Level of physical exertion required
Whether attendees include individuals at increased risk for smoke-related illness
Guidance for Residents

During periods of wildfire smoke, CDHD recommends everyone take steps to reduce smoke exposure:

Monitor local air quality conditions before spending time outdoors.
Limit outdoor activities and remain indoors whenever possible.
Keep windows and doors closed when outdoor air quality is poor.
Use portable HEPA air cleaners or high-efficiency HVAC filtration to improve indoor air quality.

Wildfire smoke is affecting a large portion of the country this season after many areas of the U.S. experienced drought. Experts say that the activity is above average, producing smoke that's a potential health hazard for people of all ages, especially for those who are older or have certain health conditions.

People with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respiratory ailments and heart issues — as well as those working outdoors and over the age of 65 — can be hard hit by the air pollution, including wildfire smoke.
