Ohio’s Rolling Hills was made possible through an ORCA-led Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) POWER Grant. By bringing together partners across the Buckeye Hills and Ohio Valley regions, this initiative created a shared vision for the future of tourism in Appalachian Ohio.

Please join us in thanking our May member of the month: Steve Hardy!

Q- How long have you been visiting the Baileys Trail System?
A- I have been visiting for just the past 9 months.

Q- What's your favorite thing about the Baileys Trail System?
A- 1. The phenomenal trails and condition of them, of course! Love the varying degree of difficulty - suitable for all experience levels and (physical)condition levels :) 2. Community involvement by Baileys Trail System 3. The trail conditions report on the website!! Well done

Q- Why did you decide to become a Baileys Trail System member?
A- It is more than just a place to ride. I want to be a part of the organization’s community of riders.

Q- Would you like to share any specific memories you have from your visits to the Baileys Trails System?
A- I have had two interactions with folks (while riding BTS) having more knowledge of the trail system than I. In both instances, they were more than helpful in making my experience a better one.

Q- Besides being a member, are there other ways you are or have been involved with the trail system?
A- None; but I spread the word as often as possible. Would like to better understand how I can be directly involved.

Q- Anything else you would like to share?
A- 3 years ago, I bought a mountain bike. It sat in my basement for 2 years; my gravel bike and road bike got all the seat time. Late last fall, the owner (Dan) of a Columbus-based bicycle shop encouraged me to visit Baileys. I went the next day. While having only scratched the surface of BTS, mountain bike riding has quickly become my favorite cycling discipline.

Rain is in the forecast through the remainder of the week, and we need your help protecting the trails you love.

Wet trails are fragile trails. Riding on saturated soil widens ruts, breaks down tread, and causes damage that takes months of volunteer/staff labor to repair. The Baileys Trail System is built to last — but only if we give it time to drain and recover.

The rule is simple: if it has rained recently or rain is coming, wait 24–48 hours after conditions dry out before heading out.

Check the forecast. Check trail Alerts & Updates. When in doubt, sit it out.

Meet Rachael our Operations Manager! Of working with ORCA and the Baileys she said, "After completing two Rural Action AmeriCorps Terms with ORCA, I'm excited to return in my new role as Operations Manager. My experience with our team’s drive to foster economic growth through outdoor recreation motivated me to shift my career trajectory—from event guiding to community collaboration. Witnessing firsthand the growth of the small towns I’ve visited for years, concurrent with the Baileys Trail System, has been truly inspirational. I wish to dedicate my energy to the place I call home. I am looking forward to using my skills to support Appalachian Ohio’s service sector and foster connections with trail users, volunteers, and partners." We are beyond thrilled to have Rachael back on our team!
