Pollution into paint. This is what it looks like when a community turns its hardest problems into its greatest possibilities.

We are grateful to Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, whose Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization grant has been critical to making this work possible. Thank you also to our partners at U.S. Forest Service - Wayne National Forest, Ohio EPA, and Sugar Bush Foundation.

A unique project in Athens County, Ohio, is taking turning pollution and tuning it into paint.

With funding from the state's H2Ohio program, Rural Action is working with the town of Washington Court House to remove a dam located in Paint Creek. The project will include complete removal of the concrete dam structure, creation of stream habitat in Paint Creek, and establishment of native trees and plants along the stream.

Removal of the Eyman Park Dam will help improve water quality, restore stream habitat, and help protect Ohio species like the Least Darter, Western Creek Chubsucker, and endangered Pocketbook mussel. 🌿💧
