JEFFREY BENNETT, distinguished author and Pittsylvania native son, will be at Shadetree Rare Books (26 South Main Street, Chatham) on August 8th from 11am to noon, to sign his latest book: "The Black Belt of Virginia: Untold Stories of African American History." (Copies available for $18.) Many of the stories are about his enslaved family at Berry Hill Plantation--and how their descendants have found their way into the American Dream. Mr. Bennett's work has appeared widely in national newspapers and magazines. (Shadetree Books is a major on-line book shop with thousands of titles on every subject. There may still be some tweaks and changes as we go along, but this is the proposed plan for the Chatham Trail System.

This plan utilizes many sites and walkways that are already in place: sidewalks, parks, cemeteries, as well as property belonging to Hargrave and Chatham Hall.

There is potential for incorporating and developing other trails and sites that might support biking or special environmental features, or other ideas.

This plan is in response to overwhelming feedback from citizens who clearly value our beautiful environment and desire opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with their families.

All of this development work has been through grant funding.
