HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT BECOMING A BEEKEEPER? 🐝
Maybe you’ve thought about keeping a hive in your backyard. Maybe you want to help pollinators, produce your own honey, or you’re simply fascinated by what happens inside a colony.
This is your chance to learn how to do it RIGHT.
The Union County NC Beekeepers Association is now enrolling students for our Fall 2026 Beginner Bee School — an 8-week course designed to take someone with little or no beekeeping experience and give them the knowledge, confidence, and support needed to become a successful beekeeper.
And this isn’t just sitting in a classroom listening to lectures.
What makes our Bee School different?
Hands-on learning — Learn from experienced local beekeepers and get opportunities to work with real colonies and equipment.
Mentorship after the classroom — Beekeeping questions don’t stop when Bee School ends. Our mentorship program connects new beekeepers with experienced members who can help as you begin managing your own bees.
Learn what to actually look for inside a hive — Understand queens, brood, food stores, colony health, pests, diseases, swarming, seasonal management and more.
Learn before you buy — We’ll help you understand the equipment you really need, how to set up a hive, and how to avoid many of the expensive mistakes new beekeepers make.
Understand the bees, not just the box — Learn honey bee biology and behavior so you understand why a colony does what it does.
Build toward beekeeper certification — Our education program works with the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association Master Beekeeper Program and provides a path toward becoming a Certified Beekeeper.
Become part of a beekeeping community — You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll meet other new beekeepers as well as experienced beekeepers from throughout our area who love sharing what they’ve learned.
No bees? No equipment? No experience? That’s exactly who this class is for.
