Gold mining has come and gone over the years in Charlotte. In 1932 operations began again near the old Rudisill Mine in modern South End , and Duke Power Company planned to erect a smelter. Other mines were opened two miles from Johnson C. Smith University and near Waxhaw. But not much came of these efforts.
