🏳️🌈 OCTOBER IS LGBT+ HISTORY MONTH 🏳️⚧️
This month, we celebrate more than history. We celebrate courage, resilience, resistance, achievement, and the generations of LGBTQ+ people who refused to be invisible.
LGBTQ+ History goes well beyond 1994, when October was formally recognized as LGBTQ+ History Month. History tells us where we have been. It reminds us of the people who organized, marched, created businesses, challenged institutions, cared for one another, built community, and demanded a seat at tables where we had long been excluded.
And as we celebrate that history, we must make room for the stories that have too often been pushed to the margins of our own movement, particularly those of transgender people and q***r people of color. Their leadership, sacrifice, entrepreneurship, creativity, advocacy, and contributions are essential LGBTQ+ history.
At the Carolinas LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce, we believe our history is also a story of economic empowerment. Every LGBTQ+ entrepreneur who opens a business, every professional who leads authentically, every corporation that expands opportunity, and every ally who uses their influence to create access contributes to the legacy we are building together.
This October, we honor those who came before us. We celebrate those doing the work today. And we recognize that the history future generations inherit is being written right now.
Our milestones matter.
Our achievements matter.
Our businesses matter.
Our stories matter.
May we know our history, preserve it, teach it, and ensure that the contributions of our entire community are never erased or forgotten.
