Thank you to our visitors and the Charlestown Historical Society board members for a very stirring and memorable evening celebrating four of Charlestown's Revolutionary War soldiers who were buried at the Cross' Mills Common Burying Ground.
Charles Church, Gideon Hoxsey, Augustus Johnson Lewis, Susannah Perry Lewis and Isaiah Burdick, came back to stand beside their headstones and tell us about their lives in 1776, and the duration of this war.

Due to weather conditions this weekend, the Charlestown Historical Society will be rescheduling the Candlelight Grave Tour below.
Please join us on Wednesday, September 30th, at 6:00 PM, to honor our local Revolutionary War soldiers. Guest appearance by General Joseph Stanton.

Parking is available at the Cross Mills Baptist Church and the Cross Mills Public library.

Flashlight are encouraged for exiting the cemetery at the end of the event. Hope to see you all!

Did you know that Charlestown had two early airports? Charlestown Aviation, which was located along the Old Post Road across from the present entrance to Dunkin' Donuts, and the Atlantic Airport, located on Schoolhouse Road where one of these buildings still stands and had been turned into a potato barn after the '38 hurricane. Shown are a few rare photographs of some of the destruction at Charlestown Aviation after the hurricane.

On July 8th at 7:00 PM, please join Rhode Island historian and author, Christian McBurney, at the Quonnie Grange in Charlestown for a talk on Rhode Island's role in the American Revolution as part of Charlestown's 250th Celebration.
The event is hosted by the Quonnie Historical Society, the Charlestown Historical Society and Friends of the Quonnie Grange.

On this day 90 years ago, Narragansett Tarzan Brown won the 1936 Boston Marathon. It is a good day to remember all of his accomplishments and also to remember the man who made not only the Narragansett people proud, but made all of Rhode Island proud!

The Boom, 1940s photos from the Browning Farm along the Old Post Road in Charlestown when potato farming was in its heyday from the 1930s through the 1950s.
This period marked a peak in commercial potato growing in southern Rhode Island with many farmers shifting to specialized "chipper" potatoes to supply the growing snack food industry.
