🧡Community in Action: World Bank Retirees Give Back!

A heartfelt thank you to the team of World Bank Retirees who volunteered their time to package food for our Free Food Fridge Program last week.

At WFCM, we're helping local families access healthy, nutritious food.

Thank you NBC Washington and Telemundo for the $1,000 grant that will help us to purchase fresh food for our School's Out/Holiday Food distribution this month!

On this , we are also thankful for all the friendly staff and volunteers captured in the clip who serve with a smile during these distributions each year.

Your money is helping us fight food insecurity in the D.C. area. Western Fairfax Christian Ministries serves people in nine zip codes with free food markets, and they’re the latest nonprofit to get a donation.

🧼 Toiletries Tuesday!

Did you know that SNAP benefits help families purchase eligible food items, but they don't cover toiletries and essential personal care products.

For families in need, items like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and deodorant can be difficult to afford.

That's why toiletries are among the most-needed items at WFCM!

🧴 WFCM's most-needed toiletries include:

Shampoo and conditioner
Body wash
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Lotion
Shaving cream and disposable razors
Pull-Ups (sizes 4T/5T)
Feminine care products (pad preferred)

Food insecurity doesn't always look the way we expect.

According to data shared by Capital Area Food Bank in their 2026 Hunger Report, 79% of the households surveyed by CAFB are employed and still experiencing food insecurity. This is also true for WFCM clients - 79% are employed.

These are our neighbors. Our coworkers. The families in our community.

Food insecurity is affecting more adults ages 18–59 and more families with children. Having a job doesn't always guarantee that there's enough money left for groceries after paying for housing, gas, childcare, and other essentials.

At WFCM, we believe everyone should have access to nutritious food. Offering food selection appointments up to 7pm four nights a week is one way we serve working families. As we reflected on all who support this mission to provide for our neighbors in need during our recent Walk to End Hunger, we are focused on more ways to reach families, why this work matters, and why community support is so important.

On this , we thank our friends at Greater DC Diaper Bank for their partnership that began in 2021. Over the weekend, our Executive Director spoke at the DC Diaper Bank's Northern Virginia Friendraiser in Springfield sharing about the incredible impact of this partnership for the families in our community.

Since January 2021, Greater DC Diaper Bank has provided nearly $717,000 worth of diapers and other items such as period products and adult incontinence supplies to WFCM for families we serve. This has allowed WFCM to provide nearly 1,812,000 diapers to babies over the course of six fiscal years!

Families should not have to choose between paying rent, buying groceries, or buying diapers. Thanks to the partnership with Greater DC Diaper Bank, more than 500 families each year pick up diapers at WFCM, along with food, to help meet these critical and basic needs.

On this , we thank our friends at Keener Insurance Agency, Inc for serving as the event sponsor for our Walk to End Hunger. It was a beautiful day to raise awareness and funds for food insecurity during the Centreville Day Parade and we are thankful for all the families and community members who took part in the event including team members from Centra, Pohanka Automotive, and of course the Keener family!

On this , we thank Stone Middle School and the National Junior Honor Society students that participated in their own Stone MS Walk to End Hunger on Wednesday October 14th. NJHS Co-Sponsor, Liz Deal, has been coordinating this walk for more than 10 years! We appreciate the invitation to share about WFCM with the students prior to their walk. This year the students donated $1,125 and 192 lbs. of groceries and toiletries.

It's always fun to see students we know and siblings of students who have walked in the past.
