🐾 Nash Read the Foster Stats. He Was Not Impressed.

Just a few days ago, Nash and his sister Memphis were sitting in a shelter with an uncertain future. Thanks to a foster stepping up, they're safe. But here's the reality...

We only received ONE application.

Their foster stepped up and took BOTH puppies, but we'd love to find Nash a foster, foster-to-adopt home, or forever family of his own. And don't forget about his sister Memphis, who is also available!

Every dog that comes through WDRR got a second chance because someone stepped up.
Right now we’re looking for:

🐾 Fosters for puppies, adults, Malinois, and mixed breeds
🚐 Volunteers who can help transport dogs to adoption events in the Austin area and stay with them during the event
💰 People willing to help with fundraising efforts
📹 Creative video makers who can help showcase our dogs through reels and videos
📢 People willing to share our dogs and posts to help them reach more potential adopters

And before you think, “I’m not the right person for that…”

We have fosters of all ages and experience levels. Some of our fosters are retired. Some work full-time. Some foster one dog at a time. Some foster puppies.

There isn’t one “perfect” foster. There are just people willing to help.

🚨 Many who didn’t read the puppy post completely thought we were euthanizing them. False.

We are a rescue trying to prevent that from happening.

The shelter reached out for help. Thankfully, they gave rescues a chance to save 19 hard to place dogs instead of simply euthanizing them.

Some shelter employees truly care. They advocate for the dogs. They network with rescues. They fight for more time and better outcomes when they can.

Here’s the reality:
There were 21 dogs on that euthanasia list.
We were able to tag 2. 19 dogs were still left needing help. That’s the part many people don’t see.

And here’s another reality:

📊 Over 1,200 reactions.

📊 More than 200 comments.

📊 Only 1 application.

Rescue doesn’t happen in the comments section.

Rescue happens when someone fills out an application.

When rescues pull dogs, it isn’t just about the dogs leaving that day. Every kennel that opens creates an opportunity for another dog to get more time, another chance, or another rescue to step in.

The reality is that shelters across the country are overwhelmed because there are simply more dogs than available homes, fosters, adopters, and kennel space.

📊 Approximately 607,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in U.S. shelters in 2024.

📊 Texas euthanized approximately 53,000 shelter dogs and cats in 2024, the highest total of any state.

The dogs didn’t create this problem.

People did.

🚫 Backyard breeders chasing profit
🚫 Unaltered dogs producing unwanted litters
🚫 Dogs dumped when they become inconvenient
🚫 Dogs allowed to roam and reproduce
🚫 Owners who don’t invest time, training, or commitment

When you see a dog on a euthanasia list, the solution isn’t just outrage.

The solution is action.

Real change also happens when people speak up to legislators and advocate for stronger animal welfare laws, stronger breeding regulations, and better access to affordable spay/neuter programs.

If we want fewer dogs on euthanasia list, we need more than comments telling other people to save them. The dogs need action.

💔 Her Puppies Got Happy Endings. Mom Is Still Waiting.

Over a year ago, Dori rescued Lovie as she was going into labor UNDER a TRUCK🥹

Just in time, Lovie was brought to safety, where she delivered and raised her puppies under WDRR's care.

Her puppies grew up and found homes.

Lovie is still waiting.

Today, she's only 2 years old and has grown into a playful, affectionate dog who loves people, loves toys, and absolutely loves squeaky toys. Give her one and she'll proudly parade it around like she just won a trophy. 🏆
