Catwalk Institute is honored to host visiting curators and art historians from The Olana Partnership this weekend, including Tim Barringer and Jennifer Raab of Yale University, along with Mary Roberts of The University of Sydney, in celebration of Olana’s newest exhibition opening at Olana State Historic Site.

Included here are two intimate paintings by Frederic Edwin Church — Sunset from Olana (1870) and Clouds over Olana (1872) — which together create a quiet visual dialogue across the Hudson River between Olana and the landscape surrounding the Catwalk property, reflecting a shared history of art, atmosphere, and place.

🌳 Arbor Day at Catwalk 🌳

What a meaningful day at Catwalk Institute celebrating trees, creativity, and community.

This year’s gathering brought together students, artists, educators, and local leaders—with a strong presence from the Village of Catskill Tree Council and Catskill Central School District, including members of the Catskill Elementary Student Council. It was especially powerful to see young voices actively shaping the moment.

A highlight was a beautiful piece by Catwalk artist Jean Zimmerman, read by students Katie Henderson and Brynn Jordan—grounding the event in reflection and hope for the future.

We also shared music, student presentations, and remarks from community members, creating a space that felt both thoughtful and alive.

Huge thanks to Malcarne Tree Services for donating and planting a Swamp Oak, and to everyone who helped make the day so special.

We’re excited to share that Catwalk alum Sari Nordman has been selected to create our sponsored sculpture for Cat’n Around Catskill. Sari is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans public art and fiber-based installations, often exploring climate change and environmental justice through material and form. Swipe through to see her in process 👀—from base layers to textured surface, this piece is already coming to life in a powerful way.

We can’t wait to see the finished cat installed on Main Street this summer. Stay tuned.
