Sometimes we get so focused on the next meeting, the next partnership, the next event, or the next challenge that we forget to stop and appreciate how far this organization has come.

This photo captures the team that has built Workforce in Motion, brick by brick. Long before the events, the sponsors, the partnerships, or the headlines, there were a lot of conversations that started with a simple question:

"What if we actually did this?"

What started as an idea has become an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit bringing together students, educators, businesses, workforce agencies, training providers, and community organizations from across Vermont.

Of course, no one builds something like this alone. We are incredibly grateful to partners like Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region and the Rutland Regional Planning Commission who believed in this vision early and helped us get it off the ground. Their support, along with so many others across Vermont, helped turn an idea into something real.

Building a nonprofit is not glamorous. It is long days, tough conversations, endless emails, constant problem solving, and a whole lot of faith that the work matters. But every week, every day, we see moments that remind us why we started - we believe deeply in this mission, and that keeps us moving.

Feeling grateful for this team, our partners, and everyone who has been part of the journey so far. We are proud to be building this for our community.

Onward.

It is honestly hard to believe the Workforce in Motion Summit & Equipment Rodeo was already a week ago. For months, this event existed in phone calls, emails, planning meetings, random voice memos, spreadsheets, walkthroughs, and coffee-fueled conversations.

And then suddenly, it was here and everyone showed up.

Guidance counselors. Businesses. Workforce agencies. Educators. Training providers. Community organizations. Employers. Students. Every single person we had spent the last five months talking with and planning alongside was there together, in one place, rallying around career awareness, workforce development, and opportunity for students across Vermont.

More than 1,100 students and 65+ businesses and partners came together and, for a few hours, the silos disappeared.

And one of the moments we are still thinking about most? Awarding $14,000 in scholarships to 7 incredible students pursuing career paths connected to the industries represented throughout the event. That moment felt bigger than a scholarship. It felt like a room full of people investing in the next generation together.

We truly could not talk about this event without thanking our title sponsor, Casella Waste Systems. They believed in this event in Rutland and continue to believe in this work as we expand into Chittenden County this September. That partnership helped turn an idea into something real.

And finally, one of this would have happened without Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region, the Rutland Regional Planning Commission, Vermont State University Castleton Campus, our employers, schools, agencies, volunteers, and every single person who helped bring this vision to life.

We are proud. We are grateful. And we so excited for September 29th at the Champlain Valley Exposition! The workforce is in motion and Vermont is too. Build with us today.

Last week’s Workforce In Motion Summit was a shining example of why this movement is gaining momentum.

This photo says it all.

No AI
No special lighting
No suits and ties
Just the next generation of tradesmen standing shoulder to shoulder with people who believe in them.

That’s what Workforce In Motion is about:
Creating opportunity.
Building confidence.
Connecting students with real careers, real businesses, and real futures.

Thank you again to every student, business, educator, volunteer, sponsor, and partner who helped make this Summit such a success.

And a special thank you to our title sponsor Casella Waste Systems.

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the servicemen and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We are especially grateful to partners like the Vermont Air National Guard, Vermont Army National Guard, and Work For Warriors Vermont, who continue to show up for communities across our state while helping connect students and job seekers to purpose-driven careers, leadership opportunities, and pathways to service.

Today, we remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and extend our gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to the families who carry that loss every day.

Thank you Governor Phil Scott for taking time out of your incredibly busy schedule to join us at the Workforce In Motion Summit at Vermont State University Castleton Campus. Your presence, encouragement, and commitment to Vermont’s future workforce meant a tremendous amount to our students, businesses, educators, and community partners.

The workforce challenges facing Vermont and our nation are very real. Employers across every sector are feeling the pressure, and the data continues to tell the story. That is exactly why Workforce In Motion was created: to help connect the next generation to meaningful career opportunities, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and workforce pathways that strengthen individuals, families and our economy.

We are incredibly grateful for leaders like Governor Scott who understand the importance of early career exploration, workforce development, and building stronger connections between education and industry.

A special thank you as well to Sarah Furman, the new Executive Director of Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region, for her leadership, partnership, and continued support of Workforce In Motion and this growing movement. The collaboration between business, education, government, and community organizations is exactly what will help move Vermont forward.

What started as an idea has already grown into something much bigger than any one organization, a true collaborative effort focused on creating opportunities, inspiring students, and helping build the workforce pipeline Vermont desperately needs.

We look forward to continuing this momentum on September 29th at the Champlain Valley Expo sponsored by Casella Waste Systems as we expand Workforce In Motion into Chittenden County and continue advocating for skilled trades, workforce innovation, and career opportunities across Vermont and beyond.

Thank you again Governor Scott for helping inspire the next generation workforce here in Vermont. We sincerely appreciate your partnership and support.
