Please welcome back Isabell Lanfear to the McNair Scholars Program!πŸ€©πŸ™Œ

"I’m from West Rutland, Vermont and have lived here my whole life. I'm a junior going into my senior year and major in Studio Art with minors in Art History and Writing. I am also apart of the Track and Field team as a thrower here at Castleton. My plan for my summer research is to study how women have been portrayed in art and mythology lending themselves to each other. I'm super excited to get started on my research this summer!"

Thank you to the University of Vermont for allowing our scholars to learn more about Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and providing advice for navigating graduate school. Scholars talked to graduate students and faculty about their experiences and provided information on how to set themselves apart during the application process! To end the day, scholars got to explore the ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain and tour the Rube Lab! πŸ‘πŸŸπŸŒ²

Please welcome back to the McNair Scholar's Program, Erin Forkin!πŸ˜„πŸŒŸ

"I grew up in a small, rural town in upstate New York and due to the lack of opportunities I had in my own school, I had to constantly advocate for myself branching out to accomplish my goals. Although my journey was rough, I’m grateful it brought me to Castleton. Currently, I am a junior working towards my BS in Psychological Science. I hold membership in the Phi Eta Sigma honor society and the Psi Chi Psychological Science honor society. During my sophomore year, I was accepted into the McNair Scholar's Program and have been able to study the areas that I am passionate about. So far, I have completed a literature review on the importance of gender-affirming care access. I am also currently researching and looking into how I could conduct a research study on ma*****na usage, professionalism and the outdated stereotypes and ideas."

"Throughout my life, I have been extremely fascinated with the world of animals. In addition to this, I have always been fascinated by documentary and large-scale media education on all animals. Animals and the sport of wrestling make up my life, and I want to be the best I can be in both of them. I believe that being a student-athlete is a great privilege and can have a great positive effect on a wide variety of different individuals. In academia, media, and communications, I want to bring a new culture to the world of large-scale animal education. I personally believe that there is so much that we humans can benefit from by connecting with the animals around us. To add, I know that we humans are the ones who hold the highest potential to make our planet a better place. I want to make audiences well-connected with the natural world, and even more connected with the animals that they share this ball of rock in space with. I want to do this in all outlets of media, and I want to learn the most I can about animals in the process. Most importantly, I want to do all of these things for the glory of god."

Look, another new scholar! Welcome Emily Macias to the McNair Family!πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

"I’m a Social Work and Sociology major with a concentration in educational settings. I transferred to VTSU Castleton from CCV and almost done with my junior year. I grew up in Nevada, but have lived in Vermont for the past three years. I plan to get my MSW from a university in New York and become an elementary school social worker. Once I started taking classes in social work along with classes in all different subjects, I’ve became increasingly interested in learning more about the mentally disabled population and how to advocate for those who may not have the ability to advocate for themselves. I plan to do a research project about how effective we’ve been at integrating that population into the workforce. I’m grateful for the opportunity I have to explore my interests in a supporting environment like the McNair program that offers all the help I could ask for!"

Please welcome our newest scholar Sharon Asolmia Aganah to the McNair Scholar's Program! πŸ˜πŸŽ‰

"I'm a student here at VTSU Castleton, but I live in Yonkers, New York. I am currently a sophomore Health Science major looking to switch to Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. I have always been interested in human anatomy and biological functions so that is really where I would like to focus my research on. But I am also open to many other research topics and fields. I work on campus as an A&P TA, a STEM tutor and an international student orientation leader. I love sports and music and I love art as well. For my first summer research project, I am hoping I get into a program in California because I really want to visit that state!"

Please welcome our newest scholar Hunter Day to the McNair Scholar's Program!πŸ€©πŸ™Œ

"I'm a second-year history major focusing on Irish history and mythology. I was born in Florida and grew up there before moving up to Vermont. I've always had a kind of niche for history and researching, so when I was told about the McNair Scholar's Program and the experiences I get to be a part of, such as the Research Experience for Undergraduate Students (REUS), I jumped aboard fast. This isn't me just trying to advertise the McNair program, but I'm definitely advertising the McNair program. Some fun facts are that I enjoy rock climbing, I have eaten 39 chicken nuggets with no sauce in one sitting, which made my mouth bleed for some reason, and I've done fire performance modeling."
