Today's verse is from Paul's letter to the Ephesians:
"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
Ephesians 4:32
As Christians, we need to be constantly reminded that we are to be others-focused. Paul writes in another place that we are to "look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Phil. 2:4
Just as God has loved and forgiven us in Christ, so too must we extend such kindness to our brothers and sisters. Our Lord Jesus Christ, when asked what the greatest commandment is, elevates loving God and others to the number one place. And notice that he does not separate the two commands. You cannot do one and not the other. Love for God and for others are both part of one inseparable commandment.
At Wyoming Rescue Mission, we take this charge seriously. We would not exist if not for the love and tenderheartedness extended to us by our donors and volunteers. We seek to be a conduit for this love, and in turn show it to those who are hurting in our community. It is a great honor to serve as the hands and feet of Christ to our homeless neighbors.
