Raising funds to fight back against cancer takes time and energy from many volunteers, and that's why we're absolutely thrilled to announce that Shirley Costopoulos and Jane Fisher are the 2026 recipients of the Spirit of Relay Award from the American Cancer Society!
The Spirit of Relay Award recognizes individuals whose compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment inspire hope and strengthen the mission. There is no better example of that spirit than Shirley and Jane. For many years, they have been the driving force behind our Daffodils Fundraiser, helping it grow into one of the most successful Relay for Life campaigns in the country. Shirley and Jane, your vision, determination, and countless hours of hard work have raised vital funds that provide hope and support to those facing cancer. But your impact extends far beyond fundraising.
You are the first to arrive and the last to leave. You are the hands setting up before anyone else arrives, the smiling faces welcoming volunteers, the problem-solvers behind the scenes, and the quiet leaders who make every Relay event feel special. While many people see the finished event, few see the countless hours, the careful planning, and the love poured into every detail.
You never ask for recognition. You simply see a need and step forward. Again and again. Year after year.
Your dedication has strengthened our Relay family and touched the lives of countless survivors, caregivers, and everyone who has walked this journey with us.
