An update on the Stanfield Short Tail Crew!

26 cats caught. Five still waiting. And every one of them deserves a future.

These cats come from a remote property in Stanfield, where their family is preparing to move. With no one remaining to care for them, they cannot simply be left behind. Out in the middle of nowhere, losing their food, water, and caretaker would be a death sentence.

The family reached out for help so these cats wouldnā€™t face that fate.

Most are young, with a handful of older cats among them. Many are semi-feral and will need patience, socialization, and time to feel safe with people. This rescue is going to take more than catching themā€”it means showing up for them every day while they learn to trust. šŸ¾

So far, three have been spayed or neutered, and six more are going tomorrow! Weā€™re still working to catch the remaining five so nobody gets left behind.

With 31 cats needing care, we need our community beside us. Spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, microchips, food, litter, and daily supplies add up quickly.

We went out last night and pulled some cats from the colony. We tried to get the sick and anyone else that was friendly enough to get close to us. I'll have some more numbers this afternoon.

We are also looking for spay sponsors and anyone who can donate supplies. I have a bit of running around to do, and then I'll get to messages tonight.

Black Magic Animal Rescue has around 30 cats who need somewhere safe to stay while their medical care is being completed. We desperately need people willing to open their homes and help us get them through this.

Even taking just one or two cats would be a HUGE help. You donā€™t have to take on all 30 to make a difference. One open home means one more cat has a comfortable place to rest and receive care.

With the weather finally cooling off, Black Magic Animal Rescue is gearing up for more TNR (trap-neuter-return) work. We need safe spaces for cats who need medical care, extra monitoring, or a little more recovery time before returning to their colonies.

šŸ¾ Welcome to the Black Magic Senior Cat Retirement Sanctuaryā€¦ apparently the word is out among the old boys. šŸ–¤

Somehow, weā€™ve ended up with quite the collection of senior male cats. We didnā€™t set out to become a retirement club, but when older cats need somewhere safe to land, itā€™s hard to turn away.

Now we have a little club of gentlemen who deserve soft beds, full bellies, and someone who sees how much they still have to offer.

Please give these boys a chance. An older cat can bring so much comfort and companionship to a home. They have their own personalities, preferences, and little habitsā€”and they deserve someone willing to get to know them. Their age shouldnā€™t be the reason they spend the rest of their lives waiting.

We love being their safe place, but weā€™d love even more to see them retire with families of their own. šŸ”

I am sick and tired of this rainy ā˜ļø weather!

I know, Arizona needs the water. But it slows down our work so much while at the same time creating so much work!

We can't TNR cats because they like to hide from the wind and rain. And our equipment shed leaks so our traps and carriers become a mess. If we can get a break from the rain, I'm hoping to get this shed patched and everything cleaned and organized. It is the season for spaying and neutering all of these outside cats šŸ˜

In the meantime, we have quite a few senior kitties that need extra attention.

Late last night, these little ones were found sick and hungry after their mama had been missing for several days. šŸ’”

Their eyes are crusted and sore, they are covered in fleas, and theyā€™re in need of medicine and care. At an age when they should be tucked close to their mama, theyā€™re already facing so much.

We donā€™t know what happened to her, but these babies need help now. Weā€™re taking things one day at a time and giving them every chance to grow up and have a family of their own.

We want to clear up something we hear from time to time: Black Magic Animal Rescue does not profit from cats, whether theyā€™re feral or friendly.

When someone adopts a working cat for $50, that fee covers the cost of their spay or neuter. Adoption fees for friendly cats also go back into their care and help us keep helping the next cat who needs us. There are vet visits, food, supplies, and often unexpected medical needs long before a cat is ready for a home.

We relocate feral cats when theyā€™re in danger. We take in friendly cats who need somewhere safe to land. In both cases, the goal is the same: give them a chance at a better life.

Every fee and donation helps us continue that work. None of these cats are a source of profit to us. Theyā€™re the reason we do this. šŸ–¤

We have a heartbreaking update about Sunny, the sick kitty we recently caught. šŸ’”

We hoped we would be bringing you news that he was feeling better. Instead, we had to say goodbye.

After medication helped reduce the swelling in his throat, Sunny was able to have a more thorough exam. Our regular vet suspected a tumor, but Sunny became so distressed and struggled so badly to breathe that they couldnā€™t safely continue. After being turned away from two more offices, we finally found an emergency hospital that could examine him and determine whether surgery was possible.

What they found was devastating. Sunnyā€™s trachea was severely torn, allowing air to escape into his neck and body. The vet did not believe it could be repaired. He also had a serious leg injury and multiple broken teeth. The vet explained that injuries like these are usually associated with severe physical trauma, though we donā€™t know what happened to him.

The medications were helping some of his symptoms, but they couldnā€™t heal the damage. With no realistic path to recovery, I made the heartbreaking decision to let Sunny go peacefully.

My daughter and I held him, cried, and said goodbye. We wanted him to feel loved and know he wasnā€™t alone. We brought him home to be buried.

I didnā€™t get to know Sunny for very long, but losing him has broken my heart. I wanted so badly for him to have a chance to heal and enjoy a safe, comfortable life. But I refuse to keep a cat here suffering just because of my personal feelings.

Thank you to everyone who cared about him and supported our efforts to help. I wish this update could have been different.

šŸ¤ A little loud, a lot of loveā€”meet Sally!

Sally is 4 years old, deaf, and incredibly sweet. She loves exploring high spaces, so a tall cat tree or a cozy perch would be right up her alley! She can also be a little vocal because she canā€™t hear herself. We think her big voice is part of her charm. šŸ¾

Sally came to us after her beloved owner had to move into a group home. Itā€™s been a big change, and she deserves a patient family who will help her feel safe and loved again.

Sally should be an only cat or be adopted with her bonded friend, Jack. Could you give herā€”or both of themā€”a loving home? šŸ¤
