RePosted • We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ethan Boyes. Ethan was the reigning Masters' Track World Champion in the Men’s 40-44 Time Trial and Sprint events and part of the winning Team Sprint squad, all earned in Fall 2022. In addition, he was a 10-time national champion throughout his cycling career. Ethan currently holds the World’s Best Performance record for Men aged 35-39 in the 1,000-meter time trial set in 2015, as well as several national records. Beyond Ethan’s athletic achievements, he was an upstanding member of the American track cycling community. His loss will be felt at local, regional, national, and world events for years, as he brought a mixture of competition and friendliness to every race. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

About this week’s rain, and the wet winter and spring we are expecting in Southern California…
…on the VELODROME “deluge” means something different! meet Pierre De Luge, famous track racer rumored to have built the first indoor velodrome to escape the RAIN!! Come pay tribute to this great man at the Carson Velodrome by getting certified to join our many training programs and fast races!! Pierre would THANK YOU!! (if this story were actually true, that is 😂).
Secondary rumor: Pierre De Luge sadly lost his first velodrome to a winter landslide, the roof caving in under the weight of heavy spring snow - gratefully, nobody was in the building at the time, but, when a crowd did arrive, they used the seats of broken bleacher chairs to slide down the hill onto the steep berms, creating what is thought today to be the first high speed sled run, and giving Pierre’s namesake to the sport of LUGE (again, repeat this story as fact at your own risk 😂).
But for real, folks, it is always 75° and dry inside Velo Sports Center and it’s a great place to do your winter training. You meet wonderful people and develop some incredible skills that you simply can’t pick up on outdoors.
There is a women’s only certification class starting this Sunday, January 8, and we expect to have a full spring and summer calendar of racing and clinics leading up to Elite and Junior National Championships in July.
Call the front desk at Velo Sports Center at (310) 630-2073 for more details about getting started.
