FYLPRO was established in 2012 by Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the United States of America, Jose L. and Mrs. Victoria J. Cuisia in cooperation with the Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI) to identify, each year, ten outstanding young professionals in the Filipino communities across the United States and provide the delegates with invaluable community, business, and government insights

: Lauren Baldonado, an assistant professor in the Department of Special Education and Literacy at SUNY New Paltz is conducting a study to learn more about the experiences and perspectives of Filipino/Filipino American caregiver experiences on applied behavior analysis (ABA) services.

Participants Needed for Research Study on Filipino Caregiver Experiences with ABA Services

You are invited to participate in this study if you:
-Are 18 years or older
-Identify as Filipino or Filipino American
-Currently live in California
-Are a parent/caregiver of a child diagnosed with autism
-Your child receives or has ever received ABA services (at least completed the first assessment)

What to expect:
-Anonymous online survey (approximately 10-15 minutes)
-Questions about the type of ABA services your child receives/received, what made it harder or easier to get those services, and your thoughts on how ABA providers listened to your cultural background
-Optional follow-up interview over Zoom (approximately 60 minutes)

Participation is optional and you can skip any questions you do not want to answer.

The screening will be followed by a short talk with FYLPRO 2012 delegate and SamaSama Project Lead Singer and Artistic Director Lou Ella Rose on the film, Filipino and Filipino-American identity, mental health and intergenerational trauma.

Antonio Moya, MD, MPH, FAAN is a Board-Certified Neurologist and Professor of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Harbor UCLA Neurology. He is also the Co-Founder of the Council of Young Filipino Americans in Medicine (CYFAM) and a leader in patient advocacy and professional development in the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). He serves as President-Elect for the Professional Staff Association of Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.

Leezel Tanglao is a bridge journalist at the intersection of editorial, product, business development and community. She is the Head of Audience and Membership at The LA Local. She has worked in three of the top five markets across Los Angeles, Dallas and New York. She is Immediate Past President of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) and cofounder and project director of FYLPRO’s Tayo.

Van Dexter Calo is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix and a Filipino health advocate passionate about empowering communities through education. As a leader with the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) and co-founder of Hepatitis B Free Arizona, he works to promote awareness, prevention, and early detection of health conditions affecting the AANHPI community.

Carl Aragones is a FilAm student, creative, and community organizer based in Los Angeles. He is the co-founder of Lumea, a youth-led media platform built to amplify emerging creatives. Having spent four years helping care for his grandmother following her stroke, he is especially passionate about the intersection of chronic disease, caregiving, and the experiences of Filipino families.

: Raelyn Grace Andal, a senior in the Bachelor of Social Work program at California State University, Los Angeles is conducting an honors thesis research study examining caregiver stress and its impact on the mental, social, and physical well-being of Filipino American informal caregivers.

Her study is seeking Filipino American adults, age 18 or older, who provide unpaid care to a family member, loved one, or friend who is 65 years of age or older. Participation involves completing a brief 10–15 minute survey.
