Another emergency for Little Joe. 💔
On Thursday I arrived and saw discharge coming nonstop out of his nose. I immediately called the vet. They were coming, but I had an event for my daughter I couldn’t miss. Pam came to take my place so he wouldn’t be without one of us.
As the event was ending, I got the call. “You should come here if you can.”
I left my daughter with her aunt in case the worst was about to happen. When I arrived, I saw two medical trucks. I was so nervous.
They told me they weren’t sure he was going to make it this time. They had asked Pam to call me. They said they had just saved him right before I arrived.
It was that close.
Little Joe had feed stuck in his esophagus. They had to pass a tube through his nose to flush it out. They also had to sedate him twice because despite his age and body condition, he was fighting them.
They said he has so much life still in him. And gosh, I know he does. 🤍
All the animals were distressed, too. Wade was bellowing. We weren’t the only ones worried about Little Joe. Animals truly bond with each other. They build friendships, become family, and moments like this remind you how much they mean to one another.
Now Little Joe needs medication, antibiotics because of the risk of aspiration pneumonia, and small, frequent soaked meals. Another emergency so soon after his colic. Another moment of wondering if I was about to say goodbye.
Our days with Little Joe are numbered. Until then, we cherish every day.
As the weather changes, we’ll reassess his body weight and quality of life with his vet. If he loses more weight, I worry about what winter would put him through. I don’t want him hurting, cold, or unable to keep weight on.
I want more time. Of course I want more time. But I want that time to be good for him, too.
If you’re able to help with another emergency vet bill, anything helps. Thank you for loving Little Joe with us. 🤍
