Happy September, McMurray Rotary! We have a busy and exciting month ahead packed with insightful speakers, community service, and fellowship. Below is your complete schedule for September meetings, guest speakers, and donation drives.

Weekly Meetings & Guest Speakers

Wednesday, Sept 2 (7:30 AM): Impact Club Meeting at Alice’s Diner (Canonsburg) to finalize our leadership committee and fall service projects.

Wednesday, Sept 2 (12:10 PM): Traditional Club Meeting at Bubba’s for a Fall Service Overview. Bring your service project ideas!

Tuesday, Sept 8 (7:30 AM): Monthly Board Meeting at Bob Evans (Rt. 19, Peters Township). Open to all members; please RSVP so we can reserve a table.

Wednesday, Sept 9 (12:10 PM): Traditional Club Meeting at Bubba’s featuring guest speaker Sierra French from Watchful Shepherd.

Wednesday, Sept 16 (12:10 PM): Traditional Club Meeting at Bubba’s featuring our own Jim Mortimer, who will share details about his global children's art supply initiative.

Saturday, Sept 19 (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM): Rotary Foundation Academy in Export, PA. Check your district emails to register, and let us know if you want to carpool!

Wednesday, Sept 23 (12:10 PM): Traditional Club Meeting at Bubba’s.

Wednesday, Sept 30 (5:30 PM): Night of Giving at Lindenwood Golf Club. Join us as we distribute our philanthropy funds! (Note: There is no 12:10 PM lunch meeting today. Keep an eye out for a sign-up link soon.)

Service Opportunities & Active Donation Drives

Highway Cleanup (Sept 26, 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM): Join us as we kick off our cleanup partnership with Washington County Clean and Tidy!

Back-to-School Food Drive (Deadline Sept 17): The Impact Club is collecting back-to-school snacks and name-brand cereal. Drop off items at any club meeting or at Santel Landscape & Design.

Monongahela Free Store Collection: We are collecting new or gently used housewares, as well as men’s clothing and shoes, all month long. Please bring your items directly to the Night of Giving on Sept 30.

🦆 Sometimes Rotary projects take a creative (and hilarious) turn!

We were thrilled to support the Belle Vernon Area Regatta recently- rainy weather and all! One of the highlights of the event is its signature duck race, where local Rotary clubs get to purchase and decorate a large blue duck.

After months of tossing around ideas, our club put it to a vote, and the winner was a total landslide: a Harry Funk-themed duck!

If you know our member Harry, you know he had a long, distinguished career in newspapers, is deeply passionate about music, is a die-hard Grateful Dead fan, and is an absolute joy to be around. Naturally, he was the perfect muse for our masterpiece (that term used loosely and ironically).

Harry... please accept our sincerest apologies for this terrible representation of you as a duck. We did it out of love! 😂

🌍 We love welcoming visitors to our meetings, especially those who inspire us with stories of Rotary impact from around the globe!

We were recently honored to host visiting Rotarian Nandini from the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Gaalaxy, India. While in town helping her son settle in at Carnegie Mellon University, she went out of her way to join our meeting and connect with our club.

It was a joy hearing all about her home club, her district, and the wonderful work they are doing. Thank you, Nandini, for bringing so much laughter, inspiration, and warmth to our group! We wish your son a fantastic school year at CMU and can't wait to welcome you back next time you're in town. 💙✨

🏔️ A huge thank you to our recent guest speaker, Christopher Cole, a member of our Impact Club!

Chris recently returned from an incredible ShelterBox Adventure hike in Yosemite National Park and stopped by to share his journey with us. He spoke about the physical trail, the heart of the ShelterBox mission, and the profound global impact they make every day.

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and essential supplies to people displaced by natural disasters and conflict worldwide- giving families safety, dignity, and a foundation to rebuild during life’s most uncertain moments. Chris took on the Yosemite adventure opportunity to raise crucial awareness and funding for this life-changing work.

Thank you, Chris, for inspiring us all with your adventure and dedication to service. We're so proud to have you in our Rotary family, and we can’t wait to see what project you conquer next!

Updates from Our Interact Club!

At last week’s meeting, the McMurray Rotary Club had the privilege of hosting two very special speakers from the Peters Township High School Interact Club: advisor Ms. Eve Cunningham and incoming Co-President Neve!

Eve and Neve gave us a recap of everything Interact accomplished this past year. Their hard work covered so many amazing initiatives, including:
• Polio Education
• A Poverty Simulation Event
• A lively Bingo fundraiser... and so much more!

We love supporting our Interact Club and can't wait to see the impact they'll make in the coming school year.

Service in action! 💚🌱

There is nothing better than seeing our Rotary family out making a difference in the community. This past Saturday, members from the McMurray Rotary Club and the McMurray Rotary Impact Club, along with some fantastic family helpers, headed over to the new Always B Smiling Greenhouse for a day of hands-on volunteering.

This greenhouse was part of our district grant project last year, so returning to support its growth was extra special. Our crew rolled up their sleeves to clear out some growth with pruning and helped assemble a brand-new potting shed!

Huge thank you to everyone who came out, brought their loved ones, and put "Service Above Self" into practice.
