Green River Back Country Horsemen of KY We are an organization formed to support the trail riding users of Green River State Park & Holmes Bend

We are an organization formed to support the trail riding users of Green River Lake State Park & Holmes Bend. We participate in volunteer workdays to maintain and improve trails. We represent the equine community in regard to issues that affect the back country trails at the parks. We are affiliated with the Back Country Horsemen of America, an organization that works to ensure that public lands remain open for recreational stock use.

Our annual KYBCH meeting is this weekend, looking forward to seeing all our GRBCH members.

Thank you to Carolyn Moore Wooldridge and Richard for donating a big piece of plexiglass.

It was used to replace the old one which you couldn't see through anymore.

The GRBCH poster has been hung inside with our new QR code along with the trail etiquette sign.

Just a small improvement to our beautiful park from GRBCH members.

Thank you for the donation Richard and Carolyn and the parks department for cutting and installing so quickly. It looks very nice.

We have some exciting news to share. Green River Backcountry horseman is now able accept electronic donations thru PayPal Giving fund. The QR code will bring you directly to our PayPal giving page or you can click the link below.

A little bit out us. Green River Backcountry Horsemen is a non-profit corporation. Our purpose was set up forth by the original founder of our chapter Mike Holzknecht, which in his words is, “To perpetuate the common sense use and enjoyment of horses in Americas Backcountry and wilderness areas; to work to ensure that public lands remain open to recreation stock use; to educate, encourage and solicit active participation and the wise and sustained use of the backcountry resources by horseman and general public commensurate with our heritage; to assist in the maintenance of equine trails; and to foster and encourage the formation of new states backcountry horseman’s organizations.”

This and more has been the Green River Backcountry Horseman since its founding. Backcountry Horseman not only honor this purpose, but go above and beyond, to make the Green River & Holmes Bend trails some of the best maintained trails in Kentucky.

We now look forward to not only maintaining the work that has been done but also starting new projects to better the experience on our great trails. This of course is not possible without donations from sponsors, who are supportive of their local community. Our volunteers are happy to donate their most precious time, and your donation would go a long way in providing materials needed for our projects.

Thank you for your time and support.

“What does BCHA do for me?”

👉 Ask not what BCHA can do for you… ask what YOU can do for BCHA.

Here’s what your membership does:

1. You give us a voice in Washington
Your support helps fund national representation—like Randy Rasmussen, who goes to D.C. for Hike the Hill, working with lawmakers and partner to protect our access to public lands and trails. That voice matters.

2. You power the boots-on-the-ground work
In 2025 alone, BCHA members across the US logged:

230,098 volunteer hours
$12,455,934 in value to public lands

That breaks down to roughly:
➡️ 630 hours EVERY single day spent clearing trails, maintaining access, and showing land managers that we are committed stewards.

That volunteer time is our leverage. It proves we don’t just ride these trails—we take care of them.

3. You strengthen our ability to win grants, numbers matter. The more members we have, the stronger we look on paper—and that directly impacts our ability to secure grants and funding for trails, camps, and projects.

4. You protect access for the next generation. Every membership helps ensure that horses and stock users still have a place on public lands—not just today, but years down the road.

5. You become part of something bigger than yourself
BCHA isn’t just an organization—it’s a tribe of people who show up, speak up, and put in the work.

If you are interested in becoming a member, please consider joining our local chapter Green River Back Country Horsemen!

We have some exciting news to share for the upcoming trail season.

Central KY Outhouses has placed a porta potty at the Holly tree picnic area courtesy of the Green River Backcountry horseman. This was made possible by all of our amazing sponsors. Thank you!

We look forward to seeing you out on the trails!

We want to thank the KY/TN competitive Mounted Orienteering group for hosting their spring event at the Green River State Park and continually supporting Green River Backcountry Horseman. We were able to meet several members of the group and learn more about the exciting sport of competitive mounted orienteering (CMO). We were thrilled to learn there were visitors from the Florida CMO group attending this event and exploring our beautiful trails. If you have not heard of KY/TN CMO please visit their page to learn more about the sport or upcoming events, which includes a fall event at Green River State Park Nov 6-8th.

The KY/TN CMO group allowed us to raise funds for GRBCH at their event, and we appreciated the continued support for our trails! A few pictures below of KY/TN event.
