The Camdenton Rotary Club welcomed John Sickmeyer as our guest speaker on August 26, 2026. John shared the history and mission of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and exciting news about the formation of a new local chapter.

The new William H. Pope Chapter is named in honor of Revolutionary War patriot William H. Pope, who served with the 2nd North Carolina Regiment and participated in the Siege of Charleston. He was later laid to rest here in Camden County, Missouri.

The chapter will be officially chartered on Saturday, August 29, at the Camden County Historical Society in Linn Creek. Descendants of William H. Pope are expected to attend the dedication, and members of the community are warmly invited to be part of this special occasion.

John explained that the Sons of the American Revolution is a patriotic, historical, and educational organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the American Revolution and the stories of the patriots who helped secure American independence.

Membership is open to men who can document direct descent from a qualifying Revolutionary War patriot. Prospective members receive help researching and documenting their family lineage before submitting an application through the state society and local chapter for genealogical review and approval.

Thank you to Scott for his update on the Old Erie Cemetery, and the need to have the front fence fixed. The Dover's were kind enough to donate another lawn tool to help keep the cemetery looking in tip top shape! Thank you to Motor Hut for your generous donation of a lawn mower to support Scott's efforts in maintaining the space. It is businesses like Motor Hut which have a heart for service...just like us Rotarians! It was a pleasure having you support this ongoing project!

Great Speaker today. Dr. Brett Thompson explains what is going on with our Pre-K children and how the school reconfiguration is going to increase early education. Was a really good presentation.
