I’ve struggled with how to write this post. It’s not something I wanted to have happen.
This past week the remainder of the season at our local track was canceled. Right, wrong or indifferent; it was canceled. With no local track within 2 hours on a Friday night, we will have to suspend the Driven to Win program.
This has been a passion for 2 years. I would be lying if I said it didn’t cause unbelievable stress, cost a ton of time and money, and cause many grey hairs; but it was worth it all. I was just reminded this past week in my fb memories of us finding the shop and getting the ball rolling and now we’re closing up shop.
Over 75 students have passed through our shop doors. Some for a short time, some the whole time. Whether it was a short time or a long time, you did my heart good. The laughs, jokes, crying and heat of the moment memories will always be with us.
It was more than just racing, it was friends, it was loving people. I can say today that I have lifelong friends because of DTW. The cars may be gone, the program closed, but we’re not done.
This Tuesday we will have one last shop night for the time being. We are possibly working a few different angles to do something different to keep the doors open, but we are still praying about the right steps. From the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry.
Thank you to our sponsors. I’m sorry it ended this way. We will be sure to get you some exposure and support through the end of August. Fans and students, please thank our sponsors here and in person for their involvement. The program could have never happened without their support.
We will have one last party at the shop on Tuesday. The last time for some Walking Tacos in a while. Come hang out, reminisce, and laugh.
