C.A.T. is a rescue group promoting a cooperative effort to reduce the free roaming cat population in our community through adoption,education and TNR. TNR works.

Community cats are members of the domestic cat species that are not socialized to people and virtually unadoptable. They typically live in groups called colonies where they form strong social bonds within their community. Community cats make their homes where they find shelter and food. Because community cats are not socialized or adoptable, they do not belong in animal pounds or shelters. Instead, they should be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and returned to their neighborhood home. TNR, or trap-neuter-release is the humane practice of trapping community cats who cannot be domesticated and brought inside as pets, spaying or neutering them and returning them to their original colony. A female cat can get pregnant when she is less than half a year old and will continue having litters of kittens until she is fixed. While having the cats gone might seem most convenient for everyone, it is a shortsighted and unrealistic solution for several reasons. When cats are removed from any location, whether they are relocated or eradicated, new cats soon move in to take over the vacated area and available food source (garbage, rodents, insects, etc.). In just a few months two intact cats can repopulate the area. New cats that move in to fill the void are likely to introduce disease and worsen nuisance behaviors. TNR of these cats has been proven to be humane, economical, and socially acceptable. A stabilized cat colony on the property site will deter other new cats from moving into the area. Still, newcomers may appear and do so usually, in increments of one or two at a time. These newcomers should be trapped immediately and vetted, as they are typically hungry and may be oblivious to consequence of the trap. Various measures can be taken to ensure that the cats do not create a nuisance on a given property. Sterilization alone eliminates most nuisance behaviors such as territorial fighting, and marking. Unobtrusive feeding stations can be devised so as to not inconvenience anyone by being an eyesore of sorts. No more kittens, cats’ lives and health are improved, and the population stabilizes and declines overtime. The behaviors and stresses associated with mating such as yowling and fighting stop. Rather than attempting the impossible task of saving thousands of unwanted cats each year, Cat Around Town focuses on the root of the problem – more kittens are born each year than there will ever be homes for. We believe that by spaying and neutering as many community cats as possible, we are proactively controlling overpopulation at its source. All kittens and any cats that are adoptable are removed from the colonies and adopted to suitable homes. One day, when the supply meets the demand, there will be a home waiting for every kitten in our community. Community cats are trapped, each cat passes through a complete workup with medical care, including examination, surgery, vaccinations, treatment for fleas and parasites, and ear tipping for identification as a graduate of the program. Cat Around Town needs volunteers to work with the hundreds of community, abandoned, or lost cats roaming the roads, streets and vacant lands of Kershaw County. Cat Around Town uses a trap-neuter-release program to try and help control the feline population. Volunteers can assist in a variety of ways, working with educating the public, colony caretakers, trapping cats, working at our adoption events, become a foster, food donations, or on fund raising committees. 🚨 PERSONAL SPACE? NEVER HEARD OF HER. 🚨😂🐾

You guys remember Tunnel Vision, right?! 🥹❤️ This little fighter has been through MORE in her short life than most of us have in a lifetime!

Let’s recap her resume:

🐾 Came in with an upper respiratory infection that cost her an eye.

🐾 Survived a nasty case of panleukopenia.

🐾 Developed sepsis in her leg as a result of the panleukopenia, leaving one of her joints paralyzed.

🐾 Was the ONLY surviving kitten in her litter.

And after ALL of that, this sweet girl found herself a wonderful family and a home of her own. We were so happy for her! ❤️

Unfortunately, through absolutely no fault of anyone, a member of her adoptive family now needs corneal transplant surgery, and the doctors have said they can no longer keep the kitties. So, Tunnel Vision has returned to CAT. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time. ❤️🙏

Now, let’s talk about this little girl’s PURRSONAL SPACE ISSUES. 😂😂😂

Guys… SHE HAS NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. NADA. 🚫📏

🚪 You walk through the door? SHE’S THERE.

🐈 You sit down? SHE’S THERE.

💕 You stop petting her for 0.2 seconds? She waves her little wonky leg at you like, “EXCUSE ME, HUMAN. I BELIEVE YOU FORGOT SOMETHING.” 😂

🚽 You think you’re going to use the bathroom alone? THINK AGAIN.

POV: You didn’t shut the bathroom door fast enough, and now you have an audience. 🤣

Tunnel Vision: “I’m sorry, did you forget who you live with?!” 🐈🐾

The paw reaching out for attention. The one eye watching your every move. The complete disregard for boundaries. Ma’am, this is a RESTROOM, not a meet-and-greet! 💀😂

This girl is a certified HOT MESS, an Olympic-level attention seeker, and a professional personal-space invader. She has been through so much, but she hasn’t let any of it steal her loving, outgoing personality. 🥹❤️

Now she needs another family to love her, spoil her, and accept that going to the bathroom alone may officially become a thing of the past. 😂🧡

Just know that if you adopt Tunnel Vision, you aren’t simply adopting a cat. You’re adopting a tiny, orange, one-eyed bathroom attendant who will supervise every single activity. 🤣🚽🐾

🖤🐈‍⬛ HAPPY BLACK CAT AWARENESS DAY! 🐈‍⬛🖤

Who needs a little extra magic in their life? ✨🖤

Black cats are basically tiny house panthers with extra sass, questionable motives at 3 AM, and a PhD in knocking things off tables. 😂🐾

But behind those gorgeous golden eyes and midnight-colored coats are sweet, silly, loving kitties who deserve just as much love, attention, and a happily-ever-after as any other cat! 🏡❤️

Sadly, black cats are sometimes overlooked in shelters because of old superstitions and silly myths. Let’s change that! 🖤

🐾 Black cats are NOT bad luck.
🐾 They’re good luck wrapped in velvet.
🐾 They make excellent cuddle buddies, professional biscuit makers, and purrsonal space invaders.
🐾 They deserve a home where they’re cherished for the amazing little souls they are!

🚗🐾 MEET TORQUE: THE CAT WHO TOOK “UNDER THE HOOD” A LITTLE TOO LITERALLY! 🐾🚗

This handsome little mechanic was found tucked away in the motor of a car as a tiny kitten. Apparently, he decided life was better with a little horsepower and a LOT of personality! 😂🔧

Now, Torque is all tuned up and ready to find his forever home! ❤️

✨ A few things you should know about this four-pawed troublemaker:

🚪 Professional Greeter: He’ll meet you at the door like you’re the most important person in the world. (Because obviously, you are… as long as you brought snacks.)

🎾 Everything Is a Toy: Cat toys? Absolutely. Random objects? Definitely. Something you specifically told him not to touch? His favorite. 😂

🐶 Dog-Wrestling Champion: He loves rubbing on his foster dog and getting in a little friendly wrestling match. Who needs a gym membership when you have Torque?

🐱 Cat-Friendly: He enjoys the company of other feline friends, so he’s happy to share his kingdom with fellow kitties.

🩷 Certified Lovebug: Pets? Yes, please! Attention? More, please! Being adored? That’s literally his job.

🛏️ Bedtime Buddy: Torque believes sleeping in the bed is a non-negotiable part of the adoption contract. You may have 10% of the mattress. He’ll take the rest.

🎭 Mr. Purrsonality: This boy has enough charm to power a small city. He’s playful, affectionate, social, and just an all-around fantastic little dude!

Torque may have started his life in a car motor, but now he’s ready to put the brakes on the stray life and accelerate straight into a forever family! 🏁❤️

Looking for a pair of personal space invaders who will fill your home with endless love, nonstop chatter, and approximately ZERO privacy? 😂 Say hello to Knuckleball and Change Up! 🐾

These baseball siblings are a real home run when it comes to affection! ⚾️ Both are professional lap warmers, enthusiastic conversationalists, and certified shadows who want to be wherever you are, whenever you’re there. Bathroom trip? Supervised. Couch time? Occupied. Personal bubble? Never heard of her. 🤣💗

🩷 Change Up is a kissing machine who would lick your face clean off if you let her! She believes every hello deserves a kiss, every cuddle deserves more cuddles, and your face is basically her personal love canvas. 💋

💙 Knuckleball is a chatty little gentleman who will follow you around the house like your own furry assistant, making sure you never go a single second without attention. He's got plenty to say, and trust us, he expects you to participate in the conversation! 🗣️🐈

Today is National Feral Cat Day, an observance launched to shine a light on community cats and promote Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) as a humane, effective way to help stabilize outdoor cat populations.

At Cat Around Town, this mission is at the heart of what we do EVERY day. 🐱

Community cats are not disposable. They are part of our communities, and they deserve humane solutions, veterinary care, and a chance to live healthy lives.
