We at Rescue Fire Company and the Rescue Fire Company Train Garden look forward to many years to come celebrating with our unique holiday tradition in Cambridge.

Many thanks to the Mayor and Council and to City of Cambridge staff for working with Rescue Fire Company, Inc. as we jointly push toward the restoration of the Old Firehouse and look into the future toward the Train Garden’s hundredth season.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Joint Statement from Rescue Fire Company and the City of Cambridge.

Below you will find a joint press release that has been agreed upon by Rescue Fire Company (RFC) and the City of Cambridge regarding the future of the train garden.

Rescue Fire Company has attempted for many months to work with the City of Cambridge toward agreement to keep the Rescue Fire Company Train Garden in its home at 307 Gay Street, the Old Firehouse.

Tonight, without warning, the City of Cambridge issued a press release stating we would be removed from the only home we have ever known. The release is found at this link: https://choosecambridge.com/m/newsflash/home/detail/499

The release states that it has never been the intention of the City of Cambridge that the Train Garden should have a permanent home in the only building it has ever occupied, its home for more than nine decades.

We worry that the negotiations in which Rescue Fire Company’s volunteers have engaged have been conducted in bad faith. We find statements such as the assertion of the Train Garden not having permanency after nearly a century in one location to also be in bad faith.

We encourage the public to make your opinion known to City Commissioners regarding the future of the Train Garden.

Press enquiries should be directed to the Train Garden's social media or email, [email protected], or to Rescue Fire Company's social media and the President's Office of Rescue Fire Company.

We thank the people of Cambridge and Dorchester County for their continued support over many successful seasons.

Many thanks to Dave Thomas for forwarding this photo from 1977 of Rescue Fire Company volunteers working on that year’s Rescue Fire Company Train Garden.

For over nine decades, small groups of our volunteers have created big memories for Cambridge!

Reminder, we’ll be open next weekend in conjunction with the Cambridge Ice & Oyster Fest. See our events tab for more info and times.

Join us for one last hurrah at the 91st Train Garden! We'll reopen in conjunction with the Cambridge Ice and Oyster Fest on January 16 and 17. Come get warm, have some of our famous popcorn, and marvel at the many beautiful vignettes designed and built by volunteers with Rescue Fire Company and from the Cambridge community.

We look forward to welcoming you into the Old Firehouse one last time for our 91st season!

AND PLEASE NOTE OUR MODIFIED HOURS, 5-8:30 ON FRIDAY, NOON-8:00 ON SATURDAY!

The curtain closes on year 91 of the Rescue Fire Company Train Garden. It’s bittersweet. The hours stretch for the volunteers, but the smiles make it worth it.

Thanks to the thousands who visited and have made this all worthwhile. Thank you to the dozens of businesses who support the Train Garden each year. Thank you to the City of Cambridge for our home in the only building we’ve ever known for more than nine decades.

But, more than anything, thanks to the volunteers of Rescue Fire Company and from our community who keep this tradition alive. The Train Garden is the result of all your combined thousands of hours of effort.

It’s the seventh day of Christmas, so Merry Christmas still stands, and as much as that, Happy New Year to all! And to all, a VERY good night!

Rescue Fire Company volunteers have been working hard to make the Holidays a special time in the City of Cambridge for a long time! This newspaper article from around 1970 makes mention of our decorating the now Old Firehouse and our opening of the Rescue Fire Company Train Garden, even then a decades-old tradition when the report was written fifty-five years ago.

Times change, but traditions remain, and we’re proud to keep these traditions alive.

There are two nights left to visit the trains, in the same old firehouse they’ve run in for over nine decades. Come see us tonight or tomorrow, between 6 and 9 PM!
