This holiday season, the Rotary Club of Cambridge partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore through their Adopt A Club initiative to ensure every Club member experienced the joy of a wrapped holiday gift. Each child has shared a simple wish list, and then Rotary members went shopping to make those wishes come true.

The Rotary Club members gathered as a team to have a wrapping party to individually wrap and place name tags and bows on each of the 78 gifts for the Cambridge Center at Leonard's Lane. This effort creates moments of joy and connection for local youth by reminding them that they are seen, valued, and supported.

April Goodman, owner of Laughing Lotus Art and Goods, recently hosted the Rotary Club of Cambridge at her store on Race St. in Cambridge. April has been in business for more than thirty years, with more than twenty of those operating award-winning shops in St. Michaels. April opened Laughing Lotus: Art & Goods, formerly known as The Hive: Art & Goods, in Downtown Cambridge on May 10, 2025, with a renewed focus on how her business would look. Shifting from only sales, April was interested in building a “vibrant, supportive community”.

“I love being back in my hometown of Cambridge. This store is not just about shopping --- it’s about creating a safe haven where people can gather, connect and feel supported," said April. Laughing Lotus: Art & Goods is home to 30 artists and makers and features everything from handcrafted jewelry and pottery to furniture and decorative accessories.

Laughing Lotus: Art & Goods also hosts community initiatives, including book clubs, grief support groups, art classes, journal making workshops and paint and sip classes.

For more information about Laughing Lotus Art and Goods, visit her shop on Race St in Cambridge or follow them on Facebook and Instagram!

The Cambridge MD Rotary Club was honored to welcome Rotary District 7630 Governor Dale Kerns, Assistant Governor of area 51 Sherye Nickerson and Past District Governor Bill Ferguson at a recent lunch meeting.

DG Kerns spoke about the”3 legs of the stool” areas of emphasis in Rotary – The Foundation, Membership and Social Image. The Rotary International Foundation is the funding vehicle for many of the Rotary projects done both in the United States and Internationally. Membership helps to drive Rotary projects in our communities, and social image helps create awareness around Rotary and what Rotarians are doing with the help of our community.

DG Kerns was excited to talk to our club about a new project opportunity in our Rotary District 7630. Recently, a grant was approved by the Rotary Foundation, allowing District 7630 to purchase equipment, helping to address food insecurity through the Nourish by Rotary program. This program allows clubs to create food packing projects to help with needs in local communities.

During the visit, District Governor Dale Kerns and Past District Governor Bill Ferguson presented Rotarian Phil Reed with his Paul Harris Fellow + 5. Named for Rotary Founder Paul Harris, individuals donating $1000 to the Rotary Foundation become members of the Paul Harris Fellowship. With each additional $1000 the recipient becomes a Paul Harris Fellow + member.

Thank you to DG Dale Kearns, along with AG Sherye Nickerson and past DG Bill Ferguson for visiting with our club.

Service Above Self

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Your local Rotary Club of Cambridge believes we have a responsibility to serve in a way that builds a stronger more diverse community while finding new ways to enhance the beauty, the prosperity and the stability of the area we all love and call home.

Living by our 4 Way Test of the things we think, say and do helps promoting high ethical standards in our professional and personal lives.

Is it the TRUTH?
