Hundreds of Makers, One Small Town

Most people expect a town the size of Cambridge to have a few shops and a place to eat. They don’t expect to find the work of hundreds of local and Midwest artists and makers within a few blocks of Main Street.

Walk into Art Hub on any given day and you’ll see the work of more than 70 artists: paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, fiber art and more, each made by someone who spent hours getting it right.

Down the street, Cambridge Market is home to more than 125 Wisconsin makers, people who turned a family recipe, a passion for their craft, or a love of good ingredients into something worth sharing. Every jar, candle, chocolate, and gift on those shelves started with a person and an idea.

Over at The Keystone Grill, Ken’s smoked meats and famous BBQ sauces show that craft comes off the smoker too, and they’re finger-licking good.

Mustard Seed Books gives you room to slow down and browse the shelves of books, many by local authors.

And at Cambridge Taphouse, the craft continues with 12 craft b**rs on tap, each brewed by someone who cares about the details as much as any painter or potter.

Those are just a few. Cambridge offers everyday access to hundreds of artisans and their work, all in one walkable downtown. You can stop in on a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday morning, and it’s all there waiting.

For anyone who wants to make a Friday night of it, this month brings a special opportunity.

On Friday, October 16, Art Hub, Cambridge Market and Mustard Seed Books are staying open late for Third Friday. It's your chance to experience an evening of makers on Main Street.

At Art Hub, you can meet James Shulkin at the opening reception for his new exhibit, unlike anything Art Hub has shown before. His work celebrates the qualities he admires most in the women in his life, like kindness, strength, warmth and joy. He also sculpts the animals we love and captures what makes them so endearing. He’ll talk about his work, and w**e is a dollar off.

At Cambridge Market, Market After Hours turns the store into a gathering place for even more local craftspeople. A number of makers will be on hand to share their work and stories. While there, enjoy complimentary tastings, w**e by the glass, or a special fall mocktail.

At Mustard Seed Books, classical guitarist Nik Gonzalez will fill the Reading Room with live music. Enjoy his original music while browsing the shelves to discover another great story.

Make a full evening of it, with dinner at The Keystone Grill. Then finish the night the with a local pour at Cambridge Taphouse.

Whether you come for an afternoon or stay for an evening, the makers of Cambridge are here. Come meet them. 🧡

🍂 A Barn, a Few Good Neighbors, and a Weekend Worth Exploring Cambridge 🍂

This past summer, Kerry and Sean Marren opened their barn for a garage sale. It quickly became something more: a barn sale filled with beautiful furniture and vintage pieces. When Kim Welsh stepped inside, she fell in love with the look and feel of the space.

A few conversations later, the three agreed to do it again. This time they're leaning fully into the vintage and antique pieces Kerry and Sean appreciate and Kim loves to photograph.

That's how things happen in a small town. Trust gets built over years of showing up, getting involved, and supporting one another's work. So when a good idea comes along, the answer is an easy "Yes!"

Sean has spent the last few years cleaning out and restoring this barn, and he has big dreams for what it will become. That makes this weekend a true one-time opportunity: it's the only time the barn will be open to the public.

Cambridge Business Pitch Competition & Expansion Grants Now Accepting Applications

Collaborative 523 is launching two new programs to support Cambridge entrepreneurs and business owners.

Foundation Track: Business Pitch Competition: A 6-month cohort program for early-stage entrepreneurs launching brick-and-mortar businesses in Cambridge. Participants receive business education through the Wisconsin SBDC, monthly coaching sessions, and the opportunity to compete for a $25,000 grand-prize package. First cohort begins February 2026.

Expansion Track: Individualized support and grant funding up to $25,000 for experienced business owners opening new Cambridge locations or expanding into new business lines.
Rolling applications accepted.

Both programs offer:
✓ No-cost business education and coaching
✓ Grant funding opportunities
✓ Support from experienced business advisors
✓ Connection to the Cambridge business community
