10/13/2026 - Aren't these three just the most adorable kittens ever? And after our clinic today, they are set for a lifetime with no worries. We love 'fixing' an entire litter. And preferably, the mom and dad too. Today we spayed 14 female cats and 23 male cats.

This is Cheddar. Only one eye works, but 'that don't bother him none'. We are looking for a special, inside only home for Cheddar.

09/24/2026 We would like to announce that we have finished trapping and taking care of the almost 50 abandoned cats and kittens from the trailer at Crackerville MT! Well.... we would like to, BUT.... For the past 5 days we have visited the site and no more cats were there. None in our trap, No sightings on the property. That's great. And today we spayed 10 female and five male cats and kittens, most from our Crackerville project and also cats at Remember to Rescue here in Butte. Monday we fixed seven more. NOW we must continue to find homes for these lovelies. All are in foster care. Some are perfect for life long household lap cat companions, and some, less socialized, are more suited as working cats - fed, vetted and protected for their lifetimes in return for keeping rodents at bay. And as you can see, it will take weeks for some to be old enough to be vaccinated, spayed/neutered then adopted. Our adoptables will be posted on petfinder.com. Please be patient! We are not animal control. This is a special project we took on. We don't have a facility where we can keep the cats, and we are just a small group of volunteers, fosters, donors, and old people! And dammit, we're tired.

Here is the view to the west from our spay/neuter building on South Excelsior. What a sunset! We are happy to report that all our current "Crackervillle Cats" have found homes as 'working cats'. Thank you to everyone who inquired about adopting them. That doesn't mean we won't have more though. We have many kittens in foster care that will be available after they are healthy, spayed/neutered and vaccinated. All told, we estimated that there were almost 50 cats and kittens abandoned at the empty rental in Crackerville since early August. Some were probably a second generation of kittens born to the unspayed mother cats. After checking for several days, we have seen no additional felines there. Here's hoping we got them all. Just a reminder, this is not our job... we are all volunteer and we do spay and neuter. We took this special project on because of of the need.

It's been years since these photos were taken at the St. Francis of Assisi blessing of the animals. Just wondering if the day is still celebrated here in Butte? October 4, 2026!

09/16/2026 - Yet another day dedicated to a project we are calling the "Crackerville cats". Yes, there was really a town called Crackerville near Fairmont Hot Springs, in Deer Lodge County. We have been working on this project since early August when we were asked to help. Today we spayed eight female cats/kittens and neutered four males. This was not one of our public spay/neuter clinics but rather a special effort to trap and alter almost 50 cats total - abandoned at a rental. They can not be returned to the mobile home/rental because no one is there to take care of them. Some may be a second or third generation, in fact we had one pregnant cat who gave birth to seven kittens after a few days in foster care. Most of these kitties would be perfect as 'working cats' as they need a safe place to be sheltered and fed in return for keeping rodents at bay. We have a few adult cats as well as younger teenagers. All will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated before adoption. We will also have more socialized kittens for adoption in the weeks to come (ones in foster care presently). Stay tuned for more of our adventures (unwilling adventures that is).

09/04/2026 Well another day, and more cats to spay and neuter. We estimate there may have been over 40 here originally. We had three cats caught just the other day 'fixed' by our very understanding veterinarian today, and then trapped three more this afternoon. The most recent kitties are younger kittens, but various ages, which makes us wonder haw many litters were abandoned at this place. Well, "after all, tomorrow is another day" as Scarlett O'Hara said in Gone with the Wind. And we will see what tomorrow brings.

09/02/2026 Today we (BSNTF) had an unplanned, but very necessary clinic. We spayed nine female cats/kittens and neutered three male cat/kittens. They came from a place where the folks at the rental moved but didn't take their felines. We don't know how many of these are left to trap, but an estimate is that ~40 have been taken from this is property so far. We haven't done the math, but if left on their own... well, you get the picture: each female having litters of 4 or 5 kittens when mature, two or three litters a year. We are hopefully close to nearing the end of this 'project'. We hope to trap every last cat here. BSNTF is seeking homes for these lovely, healthy, spayed and neutered, and vaccinated kitties. They are a bit hissy and shy at present, but beautiful. They might do best as 'working cats' at shops, barns, or as 'project' cats to be tamed as house pets (each has a unique personality). BSNTF has more in foster care that will be looking for a home after they are fixed. Ages range from about 3 months to a year or two. We call them the Crackerville kitties. Keep us in mind if you are looking for that special cat (or cats)!
