🎭 Want to put your business in the spotlight?

Our Annie playbill is more than a program, it’s a keepsake for the families, friends, and community members coming together to celebrate young performers.

It’s also an opportunity for local businesses to show their support for youth theatre while getting their name in front of our BackStory community.

🎭 In the Spotlight: Sadie!

This week, meet Sadie! 💛 From falling in love with acting at summer camp to landing a role in her favorite childhood musical, Sadie’s BackStory journey has come full circle!

She’s bringing her love of Annie to the stage as Tessie, one of the orphans, and we can’t wait for you to see her shine! ☀️

🎭 The BackStory: Sadie first joined us for summer camp and fell in love with acting. When she saw auditions for Annie, she knew she had to go for it, especially since she put on her own production of Annie with friends back in first grade! She says BackStory is special because “the people are so nice and it makes me feel safe.” 💛

⭐ Dream Role: Beetlejuice - she’d love to play a dramatic, creepy character!

🌶️ Favorite Rehearsal Snack: Takis… specifically the Trader Joe’s version!

🎶 Current Earworm: “Fully Dressed” - especially the orphans’ part!

🥋 Fun Fact: Sadie has been doing jiu jitsu for five years and has earned her yellow belt!

We’re so happy Sadie found her place at BackStory, and we can’t wait to cheer her on as Tessie in Annie! 🎭☀️

Throwback Thursday!

Remember A Christmas Carol? In July?

The final performance may be what the audience sees, but for our young actors, the magic starts weeks before opening night.

It’s learning lines.
It’s showing up when something feels hard.
It’s figuring out how to work together.
It’s making mistakes and trying again.
It’s building confidence, solving problems, and learning how to be part of something bigger than yourself.

And then… suddenly, the lights come up. The music starts. The curtain opens. And all those weeks of practice come together. ✨

That excitement is part of the learning, too.

We believe youth theatre is about so much more than putting on a show. It’s about giving kids a place to practice being brave, creative, collaborative humans. 💛

And we want to keep supporting them all the way through those long rehearsal days and big performance weeks.

🍎 Help us Feed the Actors!

We’re raising funds to provide nutritious meals for our young performers during full-day rehearsals, tech week, and cast celebrations.

Because hungry actors are… well, hungry actors. 😂 And a good meal means more energy, more focus, and one less thing for families to worry about.

👉 Help us feed the cast and support the young people behind the performances.

When the cast won't take your singing advice even tho you're literally the vocal director....👀

But the cast will be singing GREAT by showtime!!

Remember the giant, glowing “THEATRE” sign from our old Nickel Street location?

Today, we’re playing a little round of Fortunately, Unfortunately. It’s an improv game we play with the kids, ask yours about it! 😂

Fortunately, we kept the sign. It’s been lovingly sitting in storage for almost two years, waiting for its moment to shine again.

Unfortunately, getting it installed at our new home was going to cost more than we could swing.

Fortunately, Mason’s dad, Jeremy, heard about our predicament and said:
“I’m a master electrician. I got this.”

And just like that… we had a THEATRE sign again. 🎭💡

Now that giant glowing sign is proudly lighting up our new home and making it a whole lot easier for our families to find us.

But honestly? The best part is the reminder that this community shows up. 💛

A huge, thunderous round of applause for Mason and his dad, Jeremy, for sharing their time, skills, and generosity with BackStory.

Come admire the sign with us next time you’re here. 🎭✨

🎭 In the Spotlight: Angila!

This week, we’re going behind the scenes to meet Angila Waldman, choreographer and teaching artist at BackStory!

We’re thrilled to have Angila bringing the movement, energy, and choreography to Annie! She's passionate about theatre, but what we love most is the energy she brings into the room. Angila has a way of making working with the kids feel so fun that they sometimes don’t even realize they’re learning! 💛

Get to know Angila a little better before you see her work come to life on the BackStory stage! ☀️

🎭 BackStory Backstory:
Angila first connected with BackStory last fall when she helped choreograph Newsies, after being introduced through Misae. She loves how eager our actors are to learn and how passionate they are about theatre, and how supportive and positive this community is!

⭐ Dream Role: Ms. Hannigan, Ursula, Sally Bowles, or Velma Kelly

🥤 Favorite Rehearsal Snack: Red Bull 😂

🎶 Current Earworm: “Stay Gold” from The Outsiders

🧠 Fun Fact: Angila loves trivia and is part of a Trivia Geeks trivia group!

We’re so lucky to have Angila bringing her creativity, energy, and joy to BackStory and we can’t wait for you to see what she's created with our Annie cast! 🎭💛
