📺 A Special Day at Peace Ridge — Coming Soon to WABI! 🐴❤️

We had such a wonderful day welcoming Joy Hallowell and her cameraman, Mark, to both Northeast Equine Sanctuary and our main Peace Ridge facility in Brooks, Maine!

Joy and Mark spent the day with us meeting our animals, learning about their stories, and getting a firsthand look at the work we do every day. It was a genuinely fun day, and Joy was such a pleasure to spend time with. We’re so grateful that they took the time to visit to help us commemorate 25 years of rescue, refuge, and advocacy for animals in need.

Their visit will be featured in a special two-part series highlighting the work of Peace Ridge, the animals whose lives we touch, and the mission we’ve dedicated ourselves to for the past quarter century.

❤️ The first part of the series will air Monday, October 26th, on WABI!

We hope you’ll tune in and watch! It means so much to have the opportunity to share our work with a wider audience, and we’re incredibly thankful to Joy and Mark for helping tell the story of what we do and why it matters.

Thank you, Joy and Mark, for such a lovely day and for helping us celebrate 25 years of making a difference for animals. We can’t wait for everyone to see it!

📺 Mark your calendars for Monday, October 26th, and watch WABI!

Maverick and Maya are siblings who like the rest of the litter of 5 are looking for their new homes.

The 12 week old puppies are happy, fun and smart- they are little Einsteins.

We haven't gotten even one application on them.

These puppies have been raised here, surrounded by positive experiences, surrogate momma and papa dog time along with playdates with and around the other animals. They are learning to leash walk so nicely, and have already started on age-appropriate basic obedience.

They'll go home fully vaccinated and their spay and neuter appointments are already booked on us.

This is Idgy. She's a petite 1.5 ish year old chihuahua.

She is shy at first, but the minute you sit down to talk to her, her nerves calm, and her enthusiasm takes over.

She wants to be someone's lapdog. She warms up so quickly and wants to be by someone's side.

Idgy gets overwhelmed with new situations outside of her home base. She wants a home-centered life with people who won't let her loose- the big world is a bit scary. But in her home, she's playful and out-going and sweet as can be.

Please read all of our online adoption information at https://peaceridgesanctuary.org/adopt/ before submitting your application and thoroughly reviewed contract agreement to [email protected]

♥️♥️♥️ APPLICATION PENDING ♥️♥️♥️

This little darling is Buttons. She's a tiny, Itty-bitty yorkie who was rescued at the town dump with her sister. They were in such bad shape that her sister didn't make it.

But Buttons is well now! She loves her food and snuggles. She loves to be carried around in her pouch. She loves to go for rides and to do most anything, as long as she is safe in someone's arms.

She is between 9-11 years old. She's had a dental, which saved her life. (Dental care is so important!).

She's happy enough with her life here, she likes the other dogs that she lives with. But we're putting it out there that she is available for adoption because she's a joy- and she'd bring so much happiness to someone who wants an old dog.

Please check out our adoption info here: https://peaceridgesanctuary.org/adopt/ and *put in your application and signed, reviewed contract* before reaching out to [email protected]

Alexis Ingraham was convicted of aggravated felony animal cruelty and has now been sentenced to two years in prison, followed by probation, and given a lifetime ban on possessing animals in Maine. When she gets out of jail, she’ll be subject to random visits, without notice, to ensure the lifetime ownership ban is enforced.

Per District Attorney Natasha Irving, "As far as the continuum of cases that I’ve had of animal cruelty cases, this is really at the top because of the absolute indifference to suffering. It’s disturbing. It's been disturbing to all the folks in my office. It's been heartbreaking for all the folks in my office and for law enforcement that's worked to put an end to this.”

Peace Ridge Sanctuary played a critical role in this case, intervening to keep the horses from being shipped to slaughter by Alexis to try to hide her abuses, which not only saved their lives, but preserved evidence (the animals themselves) in this case, allowing us to enable the state to finally take action. While we’ve been working on this legal case for a year and a half, we’ve been working for 15 years to bring justice for the countless animals Alexis has harmed since her 2011 conviction resulted in little more than a slap on the wrist.

Check out this news coverage from the sentencing hearing. And stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes story about this case in our upcoming newsletter. Not signed up yet? We’ll put a link in the comments so you don’t miss it! 🙂

Sentenced for abusing nearly 30 animals, Ingraham faces a lifetime animal ownership ban.
