April was Arab American Heritage month! 🥳🎇

The first Arab American Heritage Month was recognized in April of 2021, thanks to the hard work of the Arab America Foundation. Their goal with Arab American Heritage Month was to celebrate the rich heritage and innumerable achievements of Arab Americans.

This April, Brown Girls Climb is excited to share 6 films featuring Arab and SWANA climbers and mountaineers! These films celebrate the talent, resilience, and perseverance of women and femme climbers from South West Asia and North Africa.

Know any other films featuring Arab and SWANA climbers? Drop a comment below with your recommendations. 💬👇🏾

Today, we are introducing another Brown Girls Climb brand partner, , with a gear review from New York local leader ! Ruby Romero wore her Therme Down Parka from Arc’teryx through a harsh East Coast winter, braving temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit!

🧡 Where did you test your Parka?
💜 Hiking trail, -20 Fahrenheit on a mountain snowshoeing

🧡 What do you love most about your Parka?
💜 This is the warmest jacket I've ever had! It kept me toasty during a record-breaking cold spell in NYC.

🧡 Who would you recommend this jacket to?
💜 Anyone who needs to be outside in the cold - ice climbing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or just a frigid dog walk. This is the only jacket you need!

“The Therme Down Parka is SO warm, but also lightweight. It's totally waterproof, windproof, and sleek enough to wear outdoors or in the city.” - Ruby Romero

Thank you, , for providing Brown Girls Climb with gear and event support throughout our strategic partnership. This support allows Brown Girls Climb to continue creating space for Women and Genderqueer Folks of Color to thrive in the outdoors!

Stay tuned as we are cooking some things up with Arc'teryx for this year!

Recap: New York City Stewardship Day!

During Earth Month, the New York region partnered with for a beautiful evening of stewardship and connection.

Local leaders: , , .climbs

They kicked things off with a Leave No Trace game, learning and engaging with the seven principles in a fun, community-centered way. From there, we got to work, cleaning up trash and caring for key bouldering areas throughout the park.

Afterward, They slowed things down with a sunset picnic, sharing food, laughs, and a few moments on the rock together.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and volunteered. We appreciate you!

Huge gratitude to our partners at , , and supporting this work.

Special thanks to the team at for joining us, providing reusable trash bags, and offering generous discounts to the community.

As climbers, we have a responsibility to care for the spaces we love from local parks and boulders to larger crag systems. Stewardship is part of the practice.

Let’s keep showing up for the land and for each other!
