MI Torchbearer

MI Torchbearer We want to help end idleness and loneliness for our veterans. We create programs around THEIR interests. Not ours.

We also want to engage as many youth as we can with our veterans. Our WW2 veteran mentorship program makes our hearts happy.

Finding volunteers—especially when there’s furniture to move—isn’t always easy. So when Darlene and George called saying they were donating beautiful furniture, accessories, and clothing to our elderly and disabled veterans… we knew exactly who to call. 104-year-old Original Rosie the Riveter, Frances Masters She didn’t hesitate.

And of course Brian LaPlaga from Rolling Thunder Inc. Michigan Chapter 5 was right by her side.

And although we had lots of laughs, the importance was not lost on us and Frannie said it best.

“But we create a home.” Homes are made with love.

Brian, Frannie, Mary, Cousin Mary, Tristan, Tanya, Fannie, Ben, Aiden, Kim—and every volunteer who showed up—thank you.

Because of you, WWII, Korean War and Vietnam veterans who were living in houses that didn’t feel quite like homes… will have beautifully decorated homes.

Thank you Darlene & George.

As many of our elderly and disabled veterans limit activities due to diminished vision we have been actively researching ways to enhance the quality of life for these warriors who fought so hard for us and want to share this with those of you working with veterans who are blind or have low vision.

Meta is donating Ray-Ban Meta glasses to blind and low vision veterans.

Veterans can apply for Meta AI glasses through https://bva.org/glasses/ or if you are an organization that works with veterans with vision impairment and you have a techsoup account you can apply here https://page.techsoup.org/metadonation

We will update you once we have some feedback from our WW2 and Korean War veterans who will be the first in our group to try them. We cannot guarantee there are still supplies available, but it might just get that isolated veteran out to a ballgame or a gathering with friends and family so give it a try.

We know can be a touchy subject and respect the opinions of all, but we leave the decision up to the veterans and their families. We have been personally heartbroken lately over typically outgoing veterans choosing to stay home because of their eyesight and if it helps just one warrior we will be so happy.

Heaven gained a sweet and kind new angel.

Dolly Parton was named an honorary lifetime member of the Girl Scouts many years ago fulfilling her childhood dream of being part of the organization. She would dream of dressing up in a Girl Scouts uniform as a child and coveted this honor.

She then went on to become a mentor to the Girl Scouts and children everywhere encouraging kindness and being proud of who you are.

She would stress that people can having opposing views and disagree on topics yet still be kind. Dolly Parton was one of those rare celebrities who was adored and loved by people from all walks of life. A true American icon.

We pray for her loved ones who must be missing her terribly. What a light she was on earth.

Have fun in Heaven. You will truly be a beautiful angel.

The power of music is immeasurable—especially for those living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive or developmental challenges.

Music may be the closest thing we have to time travel. ❤️

A familiar song can reach places that words sometimes can’t. It can bring someone with diminished memory right back to a person, a place, or one of the most heartwarming moments of their life.

And for a few beautiful minutes, they are there again.

This video is simply beautiful. ❤️🎶

"Because I wouldn't take less after that."

A truly wonderful tribute to Jeanne. Thank you Tammy Brumley for preparing us ahead of time so we could coordinate with our local children to watch this segment in their homes. Meant the world to them. Jeanne was the ultimate role model for young girls everywhere.

What a legend and so ahead of her time. Fighting for equal pay for equal work during that era?? That is a trailblazer....and one tough woman.

Long after you stopped your career in education, you never stopped teaching Jeanne.

Your legacy is rock solid and your loss tremendous.

Jeanne Gibson, you will be missed, but always remembered.

To all those who sacrificed and suffered for us, we thank you.

Remember those who gave their all and paid the ultimate price, and those who live with their wounds daily—seen and unseen.

May God bless and protect our military.

Say hi to Brady—a self-proclaimed Tuskegee Airmen enthusiast! While Brady thought he needed a little help from the audience showcasing his Tuskegee “pamphlet,” he didn’t realize he already had an actual Tuskegee Airman standing right by his side every step of the way… and their matching Tuskegee and Winnie the Pooh shirts just made the day. 💛✈️
