What better way to close out Women’s History Month than by hearing directly from the young people about the women who have been most influential in their lives. Happy Women's History Month.

YPLC students from Nelson Mandela School for Social Justice stepped into the world of sneaker design and marketing through a hands-on collaboration with Solecial Studies 👟🔥.

Young People explored the full creative process. They developed design briefs, selected materials and colors, created marketing plans, and built sales strategies for their sneaker campaigns. They also practiced storytelling and presentation skills as they shared the vision behind their designs.

Through this experience, students learned how creativity connects to business and communication in the real world. Inspired by the legacy of Nelson Mandela, students used design and storytelling to express resilience, leadership, and the power of their voice.

Special thank you to Sean and the .ssca team for guiding our students through this powerful learning experience.

We continue to highlight the great ancestor, Ms. Ella Baker, this Women’s History Month. Here she speaks at the Puerto Rico Solidarity Rally of 1974 where other great women like Angela Davis spoke out to advocate for PR’s independence and anti-imperialism.

“…you and I cannot be free in America or anywhere else where there is capitalism and imperialism until we get people to recognize that they themselves have to make the struggle and have to make the fight for freedom everyday in the year, every year, until they win it.” ~Ms. Ella Baker

We’re honored to be named a People-First AI Fund recipient by the Foundation. This support accelerates our work to advance parent leadership and expand what’s possible for the young people we serve and the communities we invest in. We’re excited for what’s ahead! 🎉

We did it! Shoutout to the incredible parents in our RACS x EBI Parent Leadership Cohort Level I who just wrapped up their journey . Over six sessions, they explored their leadership styles, deepened their communication skills, and learned how to lead with empathy and purpose.
Now, they’re stepping into their next chapter: conducting empathy interviews with students, families, and staff to uncover the real challenges and opportunities facing our school and the greater community. These powerful conversations will shape the solutions we tackle together in the next school year.
Parent voice is leadership. Community insight is strategy. And this is just the beginning.

This was such a powerful professional development session, organized in collaboration with and , in service of educators. We engaged with Latimer’s life, legacy, and family. We are still blown away by how Latimer’s work continues to shape our present. Together, we explored how educators can embody his values of innovation, resilience, and community to bring meaningful solutions back to their schools and communities.
