For Lupin, the shy boy who deserved his happy ending.
Some of the hardest stories to write are the ones where, despite everything, we couldn’t save them.
Sweet Lupin was rescued as a kittem last year from a backyard in Bushwick, with his brothers Fleury ans Little Owl. All three were sweet, shy boys who needed time and patience to learn to trust.
Lupin was with us for over a year, with very little interest or applications. But we knew he deserved someone willing to earn his trust, win him over with Churu treats, and discover the gentle, loving boy underneath that initial hesitation.
When Lupin became sick, we thought we still had time. After a vet visit on Friday, his condition quickly worsened, and by Monday he needed emergency care. We learned he had FIP, a disease that is now often curable when caught in time. Sadly, by the time Lupin received the correct diagnosis on Monday, he was already quite sick.
We held on to hope. We spent what we could trying to save him, believing we could get him healthy, and finally find him the loving forever home he had waited so long for. We did everything we could, but Lupin passed away. 💔
We are heartbroken that we couldn’t give him the ending we dreamed of. But we don't regret trying to giving him that chance. Not for a second.
We are grateful to the foster homes that showed Lupin what love, comfort, and safety could feel like. We are grateful that, after starting life outside, he got to experience the warmth of being cared for. His life was far too short, but he was not forgotten, and he was not alone.
The medical bills we incurred trying to save Lupin have overwhelmed our rescue. We know it’s hard to donate for a cat who is no longer here, but we hope you’ll consider helping us cover his care. His life mattered, even though we couldn’t save it. And shy, overlooked cats like Lupin deserve a chance. Please help us honor Lupin by making sure we can keep saying yes to cats like him - the shy, overlooked ones who need someone to believe they are worth saving.
Rest easy, sweet boy. We wish we could have given you more time. We hope you knew how loved you were.
