Mission: to develop, promote, and support equitable and comprehensive music learning&teaching in MN.

MMEA supports -
Music educators through professional development - The Midwinter Clinic, the Collegiate Conference, and Interval, a quarterly journal;

Students involved in K-12 school music programs - Elementary and middle level festivals, All-State honors ensembles, and K-collegiate composition contest; and

Advocacy for school music programs - Providing resources and information to music educators and the community on advocating for music education in our schools.

Current Board Leadership and Executive Director Jerri Neddermeyer would like to challenge each of YOU to get involved in the leadership of our statewide organization. Use your voice and experience in our collective decision making. Participate in and guide important conversations on the future of the profession and music education in Minnesota. Be a part of our growing organization at a time of critical change for the benefit of all students and music educators. We are currently seeking applications for Region Representatives, President Elect, and College Chapters Vice President.

When preparing for the 2027 All-State Auditions, remember to utilize the MacPhail Etude Tutorial Videos! MacPhail has provided tutorial videos for Choral, WBP, Jazz, and String auditions, including a full performance video of the material and then 1-2 videos that include break down the performance and provide tips for student technique. They're a fantastic resource for students to reference as they prepare their auditions! Consider supporting MMEA through opportunities for advertising and sponsorship at the 2027 Midwinter Convention! Any advertisements you submit for the MWC Resource Book also get printed in the All-State Ensembles concert program. There are also opportunites for room sponsorship at MWC. Both are great opportunites to get the word out about your organization or programs at the state's largest gathering of music educators!

Nominations are still open for the 2027 Elementary All-Star Choir! We have over 150 students signed up already - don't delay in nominating your students! The nomination materials are all posted on the website and the nomination window closes on November 15 or until we hit 250 students - first come, first serve! The cap this year is SEVEN (7) students per school. Your students will have an AMAZING experience with conductor, Matthew Silpot.

Don't forget that the All-State Audition materials are available now on the MMEA website, along with helpful resources for students and teachers! It's never too early to get started! The audition portal will open for auditions on January 1, 2027 and the audition deadline is at NOON (12PM) on March 2, 2027.

Only two more weeks to submit students for the Digital Music Media Honors program! Do you have students that love to work on Digital Work Stations composing music? Are you curious about Digital Music Media Honors Program? As MMEA continues the work to increase accessibility to students through multiple music genres, we encourage you to check out our 2027 Digital Music Media Opportunities and consider sponsoring your music students. We would love to see them at the 2027 Midwinter Convention, where they'll get to work with Medium Zach! The submission deadline is November 6, 2026 – 11:59 p.m.
