Things that stood out to me about yesterday’s vote:
Behind the scenes, someone on their way to the meeting got stranded with a flat tire. I put the word out in our chats, and within 10 minutes, another member was on their way to her. Her tire got fixed, she made it to the rally, and multiple people stepped up to make sure she was taken care of.
That represents Mayday more than any rally ever could.
As a group, we fight an uphill battle—an almost impossible battle in an 80% red district. We know this, yet we find one another, we draw strength, and we continue no matter the odds. Truth and justice will always be a fight worth having, no matter the constant trudging through the s**t constantly thrown our way.
Despite obviously not finding justice yesterday, we fought. We did everything we could, and that matters.
During the meeting, a man who absolutely reeks of ignorance, condescending ego, and flippant interruptions demanded "decorum" without a single ounce of self-awareness regarding his own hypocrisy. A man in the crowd responded: "I'm sorry to break decorum, but these people's lives are worth breaking decorum." I will never forget that statement.
Behind that table sat three men, all complicit in their own ways in immeasurable harm, three deaths, literal torture, and tearing families apart. These are actions that will go down in history books as yet another stain on America. And while doing that, they demanded DECORUM? The audacity of these men will never fail to surprise me.
Remaining calm while this level of human suffering is being committed is the real lack of decorum. I shudder to think what goes on in a man's head who can hear the stories of those detained and then demand everyone just chill out. What a weak, spineless, cowardly, ignorant, hypocritical thing to do.
The man who spoke up? That's actual character.
On a slightly funnier note, when Ryan Sayers stood up and started his speech with "rule of law" and "fighting for the people" I thought to myself "okay cool, he's on our side." NOPE! In fact, he let the entire room know of his severe conflict of interest all while demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of the words he'd chosen to use. Gotta love it. On a less funny note, let's ALL take a moment here to remember that Mr.Sayers has a documented track record of actively fighting to suppress public records, particularly autopsy and toxicological findings following deaths at Moshannon.....a place where his own mother is a nurse...
After the state's Office of Open Records ordered the release of critical autopsy reports, Sayers actively circumvented the transparency mandates by obtaining temporary court injunctions to keep the documents legally sealed from public view.
As District Attorney, Sayers is tasked with objectively investigating any state-level crimes, staff misconduct, or local civil rights violations that occur inside that facility. Advocating for the facility's preservation undermines the public's confidence that his office can investigate its operations neutrally. Given his comments yesterday, he's clearly incapable of preforming these duties and he needs to step down immediately.

The vote didn't go our way. But we won't stop.
We bring more real decorum in our pinkies than those three men possess in their entire bodies. We just have completely different definitions of the word.
The people stuck in Moshannon away from their families, being mistreated? They don't care at all about decorum, and they don’t have the luxury or the privilege to stop fighting. So neither do we.
