Meet Blessings! 🧡 Stories like his are why we started Guardians of Hope. When he was 3 months old, he lost his mother due to complications from high blood pressure and prolonged illness. Following her passing, Blessings lacked access to breast milk during a critical developmental stage.
For a short time, an organization called Forgotten Voices in Ndola intervened to provide formula for him. This offered temporary nutritional relief. However, when the support ended, Blessings' diet became limited to nshima and porridge—foods that are insufficient to meet the nutritional needs of a growing child.
At just 1 year and 3 months old, Blessings has a compromised immune system and signs of nutritional deficiency. During a health assessment conducted last month, clinic staff confirmed that he is underweight and recommended immediate enrollment in a therapeutic nutrition program. Blessings requires consistent access to nutrient foods and medical follow-up to address deficiencies, improve his immune response, and support healthy growth.
Blessings was being cared for by his grandmother, who has been in and out of the hospital with health concerns, and his older sister who is a young mother of a 2-year-old.
Because of the level of care needed, Blessings' family is unable to care for him. But thankfully, they were connected with Obson and New Hope. We are excited to have Blessings as our newest addition to the New Hope family! He is already so loved!🧡
