WOW. What a day!

On behalf of Bristol Lodge No. 1010, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made our Flag Day & Scholarship Recognition Ceremony such a success.

This event truly represented the very best of what it means to be an Elk. Veterans, students, educators, elected officials, community partners, charitable organizations, Scouts, and Lodge volunteers all came together to celebrate patriotism, scholarship, service, and community.

A special thank you to our scholarship recipients and their families. Your hard work, dedication, and achievements made us incredibly proud.

Thank you to Sandy Leba and the Scholarship Committee for the many hours spent reviewing applications and selecting this year's recipients.

Thank you to Caroline Martin, Jay Yuschak, Corine Freitas, Bill Cathcart, Jane, John, Graham, Angela, Jeff, our House Committee, our lodge officers, and the more than 40 volunteers who helped prepare the Lodge, coordinate guests, organize the program, prepare the luncheon, and ensure everything ran smoothly.

Thank you to our guest speaker Neal Supranovich, Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu, Congressman John Larson, Representative Joe Hoxha, Commander Brian Avery, Command Sergeant Major Jimmie Smith, Principal Peter Wininger, Principal Michael Higgins, Cindy Geraghty, Janet Field, Boy Scout Troop 425, and all of our honored guests for helping make the day so meaningful.

A very special thank you to Joe Caminiti, our beloved 101-year-old World War II veteran, Iwo Jima survivor and member of Bristol Elks Lodge No. 1010.

Joe continues to inspire us all with his service, patriotism, and dedication to our community. It was an honor to have him with us as we celebrated Flag Day and recognized the next generation of scholarship recipients.

Thank you, Joe, for your example, your sacrifices, and your friendship. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβ€οΈ

Most importantly, thank you to every volunteer who quietly stepped forward when help was needed. Your dedication is what made this event possible.

Flag Day reminds us that our flag represents unity, service, sacrifice, and community. Looking around the room today, those values were on full display.

Thank you, Bristol. Thank you, Elks. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a day to remember.

Today, we honor the American Flag, our Nation's symbol of unity and freedom. Adopted on June 14, 1777, the Stars and Stripes represent the sacrifices and values that bind our Nation.

Did you know Flag Day has roots in Elks' tradition? In 1907, the Elks designated June 14 as Flag Day. By 1910, every Lodge observed it. President Woodrow Wilson recognized Flag Day in 1916 thanks to the Elks' influence. In 1949, President Harry Truman, an Elk himself, made it a national observance.
