Chicken passings and arrivals… our sweet Malachi crossed over the rainbow chicken run, last evening. He had been rotating between the basement, and a coop within the chicken run, where he could be by his friends in a protected enclosure. During this rotation cycle, Rob had taken in a new Roo (I have been calling ‘chicken little’) who completed his quarantine in the basement and rotated outside at almost the same time. For the last couple days, Chicken Little has been laying beside Malachi outside, in the chicken run, with the mini coop wall between them… as Benny and Stan do their thing, fighting Roo-dini through the fence around them. Chicken Little has been successfully perching with Ben and Stan at night… and he is just starting to crack out his first couple crows… under the guidance of the elder statesmen. Malachi is at peace, and has been laid to rest by the other Brahma roos, Squabbles and Abraham… by Jerry, Seinfeld, and the horses. In the mornings, there are usually baby deer playing and eating peacefully out by the memorial garden/pet cemetery, at the edge of the woods. It is a lovely space for all of our departed packmates to wait for us to join them on the other side.
