What happens at a Kiunga support group meeting?

There's conversation. There's learning. There's encouragement. And there's the opportunity to connect with people who understand experiences that group members may not feel comfortable sharing anywhere else.

Participants come together to learn about health, discuss challenges, share knowledge, and encourage one another. These meetings also create opportunities to talk about practical topics that affect everyday well-being and household flourishing.

But a support group is about more than what's covered in a meeting.

It's about building relationships, creating a sense of belonging, and reminding one another that no one has to navigate life's challenges alone.

Support doesn't stop when a meeting ends.

For people living with HIV, navigating everyday life can mean managing treatment, caring for family, finding reliable resources, and working through challenges that others may never see.

That's why Kiunga's work extends beyond our support group meetings. Through home visits, our project officers and community health volunteers can check in with individuals, offer encouragement, help connect people with resources, and provide continued support.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with simply showing up.

Clean hands are one of the simplest ways to help prevent the spread of infection. 🧼

For people living with HIV, protecting overall health is especially important. Good hygiene practices, including regular handwashing with soap and clean water, can help reduce exposure to illnesses that can be more difficult to manage when the immune system is weakened.

That’s why hygiene education is part of Kiunga’s work with support groups. By sharing practical information and resources, we help people living with HIV take steps to protect their health and well-being.

This Global Handwashing Day, we’re celebrating a simple habit that can make a meaningful difference: clean hands, healthier communities.

You helped us make every drop count. 💧

Thank you to everyone who joined us to provide rain barrels and WaterGuard to members of our support groups.

Your generosity is helping us provide 54 rain barrels for new support group members, along with WaterGuard for both new members and existing members who already have rain barrels.

With the rainy season expected to begin any time, your generosity is helping families prepare to capture and safely use the water when the rains arrive.

Thank you for helping us turn the coming rains into an opportunity. ❤️

🌧️ The rains are coming.

The rainy season in Isiolo is expected to begin this month and continue through December.

We're working to provide 54 rain barrels and 300 bottles of WaterGuard to members of our support groups.

The 54 members of our newest groups will receive both a rain barrel and WaterGuard. Additional WaterGuard will go to existing group members who already have rain barrels.

$15 can help provide a rain barrel.
$1 can help provide WaterGuard.

If you've been thinking about giving, now is the time to help us get these resources in place before the rains arrive.

Collecting rainwater is only part of the solution.

A rain barrel gives a family a way to capture and store water when the rains come. But collected rainwater needs to be treated before it is safe to drink.

That's why we're raising funds for both:

💧 54 rain barrels for members of our three newest support groups
💧 300 bottles of WaterGuard for new and existing support group members

The 54 new members will receive both a rain barrel and WaterGuard. Additional WaterGuard will go to existing members who already have rain barrels.

The rainy season is expected to begin later this month.

Let's make every drop count.

Living with HIV is about more than managing a medical condition. It can also mean facing stigma, isolation, financial stress, and the emotional challenges that come with a lifelong diagnosis.

That’s why mental health and community support are an important part of Kiunga’s work.

Through support groups, peer connections, and ongoing support from community health volunteers, people living with HIV have a place to share their experiences, encourage one another, and know they are not alone.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that health includes mental health, and no one should have to face life’s challenges alone. 🤍

💧 Let's Make Every Drop Count

The rainy season in Isiolo is expected to begin in mid-October and continue through December.

For communities where access to water can be a daily challenge, the rains bring an important opportunity: capture the water and make it last.

We've already provided rain barrels to members of existing support groups who live in communities where they are needed. Now, we're preparing to provide 54 rain barrels to members of our three newest support groups.

Each new member will receive a rain barrel and WaterGuard to help make collected rainwater safer to drink.

We'll also provide WaterGuard to existing support group members who already have rain barrels.

💧 54 rain barrels × $15 each
💧 300 bottles of WaterGuard × $1 each

The rains are coming. 🌧️

In Isiolo, the arrival of rain can bring tremendous relief after a dry season. But when water is scarce, it’s not enough simply to wait for the rain. Communities need ways to capture it, store it and make it safe to use.

As the rainy season approaches, we’re thinking about how we can make a practical difference: helping support group members collect and safely store rainwater for the months ahead.

We’ll be sharing more soon about how you can help make that possible. 💧
