On June 19, 1865, word reached slaves in Texas that they were free. As we celebrate this day, we reflect on how we can continue to resist evil, injustice, and oppression.

This week our Summer Sprouts explorers will discover the furry neighbors who share our world as we learn what makes a mammal special and look for clues that animals are nearby. Through games, movement, and an animal detective walk, we’ll explore how different creatures move, live, eat, and connect with the world around them. Come ready to use your imagination, curiosity, and explorer skills as we celebrate the amazing animals in God’s creation!

What's Summer Sprouts? It's a Sunday morning faith adventure for kids. Children ages 3–12 are invited to join their families for the first part of the 10:30 worship service, then join us on the church lawn as we become “nature explorers!” Together we’ll discover the beauty of God’s creation through observation. Dress for the weather and come ready to notice the wonder all around us!

(Kids can join Jenny and friends after the Children's Moment and their grown ups pick them up after the service ends.)

Challenge Accepted: Finding Strength for the Journey

Starting this Sunday, we’re aligning our hearts with our kids as we dive into a new 5-week worship series! Inspired by this year’s "Snowball Mountain Challenge" VBS, Pastor Heidi will lead us through the very same scriptures our children are learning. From the courage of Esther to the resilience of Joseph, we’ll explore what it truly means to draw strength from our faith when life gets uphill.

Join us this Sunday as we kick off with The Gift That Survived the Pit (Genesis 41). Challenge accepted!

In an odd bit of timing, the Southern Baptist Convention voted to advance a constitutional ban on all women pastors the same year that The United Methodist Church is celebrating the 70th anniversary of full clergy rights for women in The Methodist Church. A number of annual conferences are marking the occasion.

Here's a throwback for your Thursday! A post from 2017, when a team of folks got together to beautify the church lawn.

It's timely, too, because we are in need of some help this week to help prepare the front lawn for a wedding! Phil Long and Katie Singleton are getting married here on Saturday June 20, and are planning to take photos on our stone steps.

Can you stop by the church sometime to help pull some weeds? Pastor Heidi will be there this Sunday at 5:30 and invites you to join her -- or you can stop by anytime you're able, pick a section, and pull some weeds!

SUMMER SPROUTS! 🌞

Outdoors on the church lawn following the Children’s Moment during the 10:30 worship service at Brecksville UMC.

Children ages 3–12 are invited to join us on the church lawn for Summer Sprouts as we become “nature explorers!” Together we’ll discover the beauty of God’s creation through observation. Dress for the weather and come ready to notice the wonder all around us! Kids can join Jenny and friends after the Children's Moment.

Explorer Challenge Day! 6/14
Over the past few weeks, our Summer Sprouts explorers have practiced noticing, listening, and looking closely at God's creation. This Sunday we'll put all of those skills to work during Explorer Challenge Day! Through a scavenger hunt, nature detective stations, and hands-on exploration, children will search for bugs, birds, flowers, textures, sounds, and signs of life all around our church grounds. Come ready to explore, wonder, and discover the amazing things God has placed right in our own backyard!

Miss Jenny and the VBS crew are looking for 100 empty Altoids tins (the larger size, not the minis.) If you have one rattling around your backpack or drawer, eat that last curiously strong mint and bring the empty tin to church! We'll be collecting through the end of June.

Wake the kids! Phone the neighbors! Tell them that it’s almost time for the 2026 Brecksville Home Days Pie Baking Contest, Saturday, June 20.

Get ready for some good old fashioned fun on the front lawn of the church - right on Brecksville Square! Top three entries win bragging rights and a small cash prize. After judging, the community is invited to sample the pies for a donation to the Brecksville Food Pantry.
