Bells Toll in Brecksville.

The silence of a Sunday morning is interrupted by the tolling of a church bell. Slowly and repeatedly, the bell sounds with a moment of silence between each toll, a reminder to pause and remember.

On All Saints Sunday, United Methodists around the world publicly remember those who have passed away. Celebrated on the first Sunday in November, All Saints Sunday it time set apart to honor the impact each life has on another.

At Brecksville United Methodist Church the names of all who have died in the past year are read, a candle is lit, and the church bell is tolled once for each person. Prayers are lifted for the departed as the congregation honors and celebrates them in silent prayer.

United Methodists believe in the “communion of the saints,” which includes not only all living believers, but also all who have gone before them, a “great cloud of witnesses,” which surrounds the living and cheers each of us on.

Those attending the 10:30 service in person this Sunday (the first Sunday of November) are encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one they would like to remember on All Saints Sunday and place it on the altar.

If you would like to recognize a loved one who died between Novembers with the tolling of the bell, please contact us or list their name below.

Throwback Thursday! Beautiful pictures of a dreary November Day in the church yard for our annual Fall Clean Up.

We're doing it again! Save the date of Saturday, November 7 and come help beautify the church yard from 9 until we're done. Many hands make light work!

It will be Jeremy's first time leading the way. Should he bring donuts?

Saint Augustine says we can’t do good to everyone, so we should especially care for those God has placed close to us.

Not sure where to start?

One idea is to visit someone who is homebound or in a care facility this week with a BUMC pumpkin care package! It includes a hand colored card from our Do Something Sunday kids and a small pumpkin - a wonderful gift to let a church friend know they're thought of and remembered. A simple act of love!
